Yeah for Chestnut.
The swim is by far the shortest part and will fly by. I never swam for more than 1 hour in training and got through the 90 minute swim easy.
It's the bike where an Ironman is made or lost.
I loved the swim, but I come from a decent swimming background.
Wetsuits are much easier than swimming in skins as they help you float.
The swim was in the sea. I'd done loads of training in the Solent so was well prepared (for that part at least) [emoji16]
I have been away from NSC for a very long time, but just wanted to resurrect this thread for anybody who cares and say.
I COMPLETED MY IRONMAN RACE!
15hrs and 15 minutes to swim 2.4miles, ride 112miles and then run a marathon.
Below is a video of me crossing the line.
Hello All,
Just thought I would say that (if anybody cares) my blog has been updated with how my training is going.
First Olympic distance Traithlon in 6 weeks time!

The true test of human endurance is the Triple Deca Ironman.
30 Ironman races run over 30 consecutive days!!!!!!
Now those guys ARE absolute nutters. Or just very very fit
Thanks mate, and some great advice there.
I live in Portsmouth so have already contacted the "Pompey Triathletes" who I will do some open water swim training with. Also me and my mates have set up our own little Tri Club and have been training together. You can see the website here...
I checked with the race organisers and apparently you have to use a "pedal" bike, whatever one of those might be.
Seem to remember riding one of those in the 80's so should be OK. Apparently you never forget how ???
Thanks for the positive comments all.
The full Ironman is not till 2015. Have a sprint tri in June, then an Olympic distance in August.
Half IM early in 2015, then train up for the full later that year. Should be achievable I hope.
Can't wait to get the compulsory Ironman tattoo.
9 hours...
Swim 2.4 miles --> Ride 112 miles --> Run 26.2 miles all in under 17 hours?
I have (with some trepidation) decided to compete in an Ironman in 2015 to raise money for Neuroblastoma in memory of my friends daughter who tragically died at just 2 years old.
