I know it was many years ago and I was only 12, for some reason I did think it was raining.
I can only remember the Millwall fans in the West Stand terrace though, and the police standing in front of them with dogs.
I'm sure it was 1977 because the Panorama documentary about Millwall fans came out that year.
I don't think I have heard J cloths mentioned before, im sure the masks had ties and were worn on their heads.
I can't remember exactly what they had on as I couldn't see them close up, but I've watched...
Millwall fans turned up at The Goldstone wearing surgical masks in the 70s ( 77 I think ) The police put them in the West Stand terrace next to the tunnel.
Great photo, looks like it's taken outside the old children's hospital.
Nice display of diamond Lyle & Scott and Pringle jumpers. Lots of yoof wearing casual gear these days especially Fila and Ellesse, but the diamond golf jumper hasn't made a comeback.
Bet he is always late as it would take about half an hour to lace up his boots.
Watford was a let down, the highlight of the day was finding the cafe open!!
I remember Donkey jackets about 1977/8, I didn't have one myself but I asked my dad to get me one, I can hear his reply now in his West Country accent " you can't get a donkey jacket in a kids size, you silly bugger"
I think the donkey jacket look included wearing army surplus trousers and...
Errrr it's a picture of Danny Dyer an ACTOR wearing a Lacoste track suit top, unless you can see someone running down West Street wearing a green cardigan in a picture taken in 1982/83.
I did go to a wine bar place in Worthing at the time with the Scouse lad, I'm sure it was downstairs from the Tiroler.
The lad I used to drink with lived in Lancing, he supported Everton and didn't watch the Albion, his nickname was Wack and his first name Simon, but everyone called him Wack...
The boys from the Mersey by Nicholas Allt is a good book on the early casuals, some funny stories of travelling to football and not paying to travel and getting through the turnstiles for free.
You are right about scousers, I know some that live round here and they always make me laugh.
Seeing...
Spot on about bouncers in that era.
Generally meat heads, rent -a- thugs and bullys that would outnumber a troublemaker and give them a good kicking.
I spent plenty of time in Brighton's pubs and clubs during the 80s and one thing I did learn was not to mess with bouncers.
I can't comment on...
Sorry but I don't need a history lesson on casual clothing as I was around at the time, I had all sorts of Golfing jumpers, not pink though but I don't remember people wearing cardigans in Brighton.
I'm sure Pretty pink fairy or bushy will be along to correct me if I'm wrong.
