Thank god you're not in charge. We've made a profit of >= £700k for Noone, and we've replaced him. You'd be happy with a profit of £500k for CMS, with no replacement, so we can spend the next few months without a first choice striker. Genius.
Not really, we just haven't been playing to his strengths, he hasn't got worse. The fact that Rhodes just went for daft money doesn't hurt the value of other strikers either. If we were trying to get rid his value would fall, if other teams were after him, it would go up.
Even if they meet our valuation, we'd be mad to let him go without a replacement signed. We already need another striker even if he stays. What happens if teams meet our valuation for all our players, do we sell them all and field our reserves?
Gus has commented on how difficult it is to get a striker, and how their value is crazy, so I just can't see him letting our main striker go unless we already have a replacement (striker) signed.
