Chappers is right, this is fanciful. It didn't matter because there was no pressure. If he failed, so what? They had lost anyway - even forcing England to bat again was incredibly unlikely.
Smith reminds me of the sort of innings Jack Russell used to score for England in the days when the...
Indeed, that match looks fantastic, and the South African score card looks like the sort of card the Aussies in their prime used to post whenever they were in trouble. With the teams just two runs apart in the first innings, South Africa have gone from 98/5 & 130/6 to their current score of 326/8.
Totally agree. I hate the night watchman concept. A recognised batsman ought to be able to concentrate for a couple of overs, moreso than a tired bowler anyhow.
I think he'll go with Tremlett purely because he's a better bowler.
I think Bresnan would have been more likely in a tight series against a team with a decent bowling attack, which obviously isn't the Aussies at the moment.
This was my post at the end of day one, just after we'd knocked them over for 245. I can't believe how prophetic it was. I really should have lumped on.
End of day 2, we were 317/2
We declared on 620/5
We bowled them out for 304
But that isn't the only reason for putting them straight in.
Other possible reasons are to wrong foot the oppostion or to score big while the pitch was really flat. Lets not forget that the Aussie openers promptly put on 84 when they did come out, and were very untroubled in doing so. If...
Easy to say in hindsight though. The fact is that it was a batsman's wicket early on, and ours filled their boots this morning.
With only 2/3 recognised batsmen, and an in-form Jimmy Anderson running in on a cloudy day and Swann twirling away on that wicket, I still think we ought to win this...
I was APOPLECTIC with rage. I was literally Maradona-handball or f***ing-Koeman-should've-been-sent-off-let-alone-score-a-goal angry, as every England batsman meekly gave up his wicket, just 3 days after Collingwood had scored a double ton.
The result in Adelaide four years ago was the one and only time I have ever been really proper angry watching a cricket match. To recap, having rattled up 550/6 in our first innings, we were 39/1 and leading by about 50 going into the last day. To this day, I can't quite believe we managed to...
