I've been doing the morning session then heading to bed and then up again at 5.30am for the end of the afternoon session. Has worked but God I'm knackered.
Day Four Prediction:
208 lead - maybe add 70 more realistically. Aussies batting after lunch needing 280 to make us bat again and then get a lead in order to bowl us out to win the test - ain't going to happen.
Two sessions to bowl at them - perhaps 3 down at the close for 150, still needing...
The England batsmen have not had to target Beer because there are runs to be had from every bowler. It would be interesting to see what would happen to Beer if he was the only weak link and we set about him. Not sure we know if he's any good yet because he hasn't been pressed.
Essentially, there are always marginal decisions in any session, or day, or test, or series. The fact is Australia have been trounced by this England side. The side on top always get the rub because typically they are generating more chances (like Man U with penalties). Was very funny to see...
Seems to be a feeling that Bell not walking negates the Hughes "catch". It just doesn't IMHO. We've all feathered a ball bahind and not known if we touched it or not* - it happens. Bell says he didn't know, hnece checking the replay. As it happens, the third Umpire probabaly got it wrong since...
Great work by England - superb.
Disgusted with Hughes and Clarke.
And then they all had the cheek to blank Cook when he got his hundred because he was caught off a no ball and then not caught by a cheat.
Well done Matty Prior too - perfect timing for a good knock.
Bye bye and many thanks Colly.
Here's a scenario Titanic:
Against a decent, or even consistent, bowling attack Strauss goes early and Cook gets a poor decision. Trott is hanging around and Pietersen goes for 30 - again. Bell gets in but Trott gets a good ball. Bell on 25, England on 125-4 with Prior joining Bell. Prior can...
Glad they stuck with Colly because he's earned that. Hope he scores a decent pile of runs. But suspect we'll only be seeing him in One Dayers from now on.
Feels a bit like the Perth game where we let them (Johnson) get 50 more than they should have and it proved to be the difference. Maybe this time we'll bat on and get a lead. Anything over 350 would be doing well I think, giving a lead of perhaps 70/80. They have to win so could dash at this...
I'm not picking holes in him. Just trying to undestand how much better he can/could get.
(And we've retained them at the moment - not won them yet :) )
"I find it amusing that to be considered a 'specialist keeper' by some purists, you have to be a shit batsman! As if the two disciplines are in any way connected, and that very shitness with the bat, makes them a better keeper. "
Not sure that's right. I'm not an expert at keeping (other than...
Not knocking him Hans - I think he's a good solid keeper now and has seen off his critics (thnk God for the 85 though because all that would have started up again). Was really trying to find out if they were thought to be catchable and how he has done in this series as a keeper. He's looked tidy...
