The chance of a major snow event in the south on Wednesday seems to evaporated. The southern front which was predicted a few days ago to produce precipitation in southern counties seems to be not crossing the chanel now.
Had to drive around Worthing today as part of my work, and it became quite tricky. About an hour of heavy snow which settled quite quickly on all surfaces.
Totally unexpected when looking at the BBC weather forecast yesterday.Seems it was quite localised as the news is not saying much about it.
I think there will be no threat of snow tonight near the coast of Sussex looking at the BBC forecast :(
I did see some wintry flakes earlier in the day in Worthing and also sleet that seemed to stay slushy on the ground due to the temperature. Probably the closest of a major snow event down here...
Part of the reason for the UK to have less snow in winter compared to mainland Europe apart from global warming is because the ocean surrounding us warms the weather fronts approaching us.
Had a decent snow shower earlier in Worthing as I was delivering, it even started to settle a little bit, before promptly stopping, and a few periods of seeing a few flakes in the air on the breeze.
Still this is the best snow event down here for 3 years apparently.
Looking at BBC news there will be significant snow fall in the south east apart from a few miles area around the coast.
Fook it I may go for a little drive tomorrow like a certain famous person to test my eye sight.
Spain is usually hotter than the south coast of England, and we are a lot closer to the arctic. Its not fair that we avoid these snow events in recent years. I guess its down to the jet stream.
Its just bloody cold here, full stop.
Last year was a damp squib, I think it was fair to say.
Anyway, when was the last time it snowed on Christmas day in Sussex ? Not in my life time. Christmas cards should just have damp grey clouds and a temp of 9c on them.
