As I suddenly have some time on my hands, I'm working through John Julius Norwich's full trilogy on the Byzantine Empire.
I've read the abridged single volume version multiple times, and a month or so ago I managed to get hold of the original trilogy (all out of print now) online.

I thought exactly the same as far as a movie adaptation goes - I believe the author is a Hollywood screenwriter by 'trade' so that probably shouldn't be a surprise.
Mind you, I can think of at least one scene which is crucial to the plot which I'm not sure even Hollywood could get away with...
I'm not normally a huge fan of that kind of book, but I thought I Am Pilgrim was absolutely superb.
Not sure how far in you are, but what do you make of it so far?
I got one just after Christmas and absolutely love it. For commuting to work it's perfect, gives me a nice choice of books to read from without having to lug them all around. Downloading to it is nice and simple, and you don't get any glare from the screen at all. Highly recommended.
"Clash Of Kings", the 2nd book in the series "A Song Of Ice And Fire" by George R. R. Martin (the series on which the TV show Game Of Thrones is based).
"Nothing To Envy" by Barbara Demick.
She's an American journalist based in Seoul, and the book is true accounts of life in North Korea from people who have defected.
Fantastic book, really throws a light on what life there is like for the majority. One case it discusses is that of a doctor...
