More Abramovich revelations.
Just wrote this.
I DON’T WANT TO GO TO CHELSEA
Lorryloads of dirty tricks
Got that club in the top six
Stolen Soviet money fix
Abramovich just licked his lips
Premier League is a filthy puddle
Slave state oligarch American bubble
Fit and proper just a...
CRICKET
You bat a bit, you bowl a bit
You do it bloody well
You boss the Aussies round a bit
And then bash them to hell
But cricket is a silly game
Which leaves your hopes in tatters
Cos then it goes and rains a bit
And nothing bloody matters
In about 600 gigs in Europe I have seen a lot of nonsense at football matches. So here’s our calling card!
TO MAINLAND EUROPE’S ULTRAS
Please don’t throw pyro at us
It really is a bore
And homophobic chanting?
We’ve heard it all before
So best not think that you’ve come to
A new city to...
MAKE HISTORY
From ‘home’ matches in Gillingham
To nights at Standard or Marseille
Or even Jeunesse Hautcharage
Or Ventspils in a force nine gale
From Withdean to Europa League
From Dave the Donkey to Mitoma
And Ali Mac and Caicedo
From Archer Out to AS Roma
It’s not the same as Hereford...
MITOMA’S NIPPLE
Kaoru trapped it with his nipple
VAR deemed it his hand
Just another bitter mammary
Of a system carefully planned
Video Altered Refereeing -
One more modern football fix
To ensure the glittering prizes
Always go to the ‘Top Six’.
Man United’s penalty
Came after the FINAL...
WELCOME, GRIMSBY
Not long ago, we stood where you stand now.
Saved by our own hands. Skint, but full of pride.
And twenty five years later here we are:
Dreams all come true. A rollercoaster ride.
We know just how you feel, we’ve been there too.
Together we’ve a media to enlighten.
Football is...
As the window shuts I’d like to thank Bloom, Barber & Co for refusing to be bullied by PL ‘Top 6’ agent/journalist stooges and media re Caicedo. Another highlight in our amazing story. Archer forced out, Hereford, Withdean secured, Falmer secured, PL reached, Top 6 defied. Doing it our way...
ANOTHER ONE GONE
You had an agent who was talking shite, a common plight, Leandro
He just cared about the transfer fee, quite obviously, Leandro
Since you didn’t sign for the Blues, there’s no regrets
And you’ll be able to speak lots of French while on the bench, Leandro.
NEW BRIGHTON
It’s time to stand up and be counted
As we did in the club’s darkest hour
To open our lungs up and bellow
To the ‘Big Six’ and corporate power
We’re an inclusive, progressive city
To the world’s talent, an open door.
We’re clever, flamboyant and witty
And we’re not a ‘small...
I wrote this poem at the beginning of the World Cup finals in Qatar. Seems fitting to share it again today as it comes to an end. If you have watched and enjoyed, no criticism from me. Your choice. We didn’t ask for this. It’s just how I feel.
I’ve had a wonderful few weeks glorying in the...
This is a piece for the newspaper I write for, published last weekend. Apologies for repetition of the bit I had already posted here, I wanted to put it up in its entirety for context.
It has insights into our strategy I think you'll find interesting. Cheers, Attila/John
I had a serious...
Clearing out a load of old poetry files I came across this.
I wrote it for the presentation evening Albion Roar (I think) did for Calde years ago.
I thought some of you might like to read it and raise one more glass to remember a great Albion servant.
Calde, Borrokalaria lagurnarteko
Calde...
Graham Potter’s plastic
He wears a plastic hat
When Chelsea offered a fat wad
He said ‘I’m having that’
But Chelsea are not Brighton
No culture and no class
Just loadsandloadsamoney
He’ll fall flat on his arse
:)
I must say I’m surprised. Potter is a very clever man with a huge understanding of sports psychology and exchanging the calm onward trajectory of the Albion for the ghastly bearpit of Chelsea is an unlikely choice for me, even given the extra rewards.
The ‘top six’ will be a different and...
GOLDSTONE GHOSTS
As bulldozers close in upon our old, beloved home
and those who stand to profit rub their hands
so we gather here together in sad, angry disbelief
and for one last time our voices fill the stands.
This is no happy parting, but a battle-scarred farewell
though victory hopes are...
Simple message to say I'd have loved to have been there but I've got a gig in Cheltenham, booked months ago. I'll be thinking of you all and with you in spirit. When I wrote those words a few days before the Donny game I KNEW we'd be back, and here we are.
'And one day, when our new home's...
I am not surprised by reports that the Albion management and board was shocked to the core by Ashworth's resignation, given the apparent closeness between him, Potter and Barber and the essential role he was playing at the club. We were (hopefully still will be) creating something a bit special...
