    Southern Rail STRIKE details

Is it one of the 442 Gatwick Express trains? (i.e. the crap old trains) I get one of them home from London Bridge to Eastbourne and the air-con in coach 2 is seemingly always broken, while the air-con in coach 1 is arctic.

    Angela Gibbins

This is clearly false . She commented on a post which described Prince George in those terms. She did not use that description herself, instead calling him an example of 'white privilege' who will never know any problems and suggesting that they find pictures of Syrian refugees of the same age...

    Southern Rail STRIKE details

The Government will act by bringing the punitive measures in the Trade Union Act 2016 into force (it's been sitting on the statute book since May so they could grab big headlines when they bring it in), then it will start banging on about how 90% support isn't enough of a democratic mandate...

    Byron Burger - illegal workers

I am aware of harrowing cases of modern-day slavery in the restaurant industry, but none involving large chains. How were the Byron workers exploited by their employer? They were paid at least the rate of the national minimum wage just like all the legal workers, but they used false documents...

    Hillsborough verdict: Fans unlawfully killed

Nope. Time limit for libel is 12 months from the date of publication.

Another bunch of public sector employess on strike.....

Nonsense. The current Government is full of people who think that the best way to create economic growth is to reduce employment regulation (they never call it workers rights). In the absence of the EU, a Conservative Government would be likely to implement the Beecroft report, and would likely...

    They're taking the pee...

Having a slash at the back of the stands is apparently worse than violent conduct. The FA covers itself in glory once more.

    [Misc] Daily steps counting

Since I started tracking last year (using the Samsung Health app), I've been quite obsessive about beating 10,000 steps every day (or 15,000, when I'm being a bit more rigorous), and I've often gone for small walks late at night to get me over that target - so it's not just you, Bozza. I think...

    Maria Sharapova failed drugs test*

There is no legal requirement for consistent treatment in this context. The positive test gives her sponsors contractual freedom to end the arrangements with her, regardless of how they treat other athletes.

[Football] Do you subscribe to Sky Sports?

Cancelled Sky early last year. Wish I had done it sooner.

    Cancelling Sky (very OT)

I'm watching it over a fibre connection, so that's not the issue. The resolution is fine - you couldn't tell the difference with a freeze frame - but the frame rate (the number of images appearing per second) is lower than the broadcast image.

    Cancelling Sky (very OT)

Now TV is very good value for entertainment and movies, but for Sky Sports there's one big problem. They don't stream at a high enough frame rate, so you get really prominent motion blur when the ball is played quickly. I'm considering going back to Sky (through the dish) for this reason.

    Worst TV "comedy" ever?

I'm glad to say I have NSC to thank for never having watched Citizen Khan. The universally bad reception it got in these parts was all the warning I needed. Wish I could say the same about Mrs Brown's Boys. Those haunting three minutes will stay with me forever.

[Misc] Apple to abandon the headphone jack?

And it was terrible. You inevitably lost or broke the adapter. I can recall the sheer joy when I bought a Sony Ericsson with a proper headphone jack.

Three. This one is far less controversial than the usual brain teasers and probability arguments on here.

    Countdown to Star Wars

Went at midnight, suffering at my desk now. As a film, it's not on a par with the original or The Empire Strikes Back, but I enjoyed it a lot, and laughed more than expected.

*** The official Keep Britain in the EU thread ***

Why does anyone think the UK will be allowed access to the EU single market without signing up to EU Directives? The European Free Trade Area currently consists of Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway. To sell into the EU without customs tariffs, these countries have to sign up to around 80% of EU...

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

6000 airstrikes in the last 18 months haven't done the job, another 10,000 are unlikely to finish it. I would, however, be in favour of boots on the ground, assuming that a plurality of international support can be mustered. The war needs to be won, rather than continuing on in a bloody...

    Clare Perry MP , assulted

Perry has demonstrated on numerous occasions that there is nothing between her ears. That they made this moron the Rail Minister says all you need to know about our Government's contempt for the long-suffering commuter.

    Working Law information required please..........

Employment law is my specialism: my advice would be to avoid making a song and dance of things, particularly if you have been with the employer under 2 years. Instead, simply say that you didn't expect a disciplinary sanction to come out of what felt like more of an informal chat. At any future...
