Is he staying because he’s claimed squatter’s rights in the treatment room?

There was a certain logic this season. Someone with experience of euro matches, someone who can cover a lot of positions.

What's the logic for next season? Massive injury risk, too immobile to play pretty much anywhere.

He would have to be playing for free to make this a good idea. And he certainly won't be.

Maybe we won't be spending much in the summer as people hope? A bit of a strange one this. How many games is he going to realistically play?

I do not believe that this is a direct quote from RDZ

“I am delighted for James and Danny, as they both deserve these extensions.

“Their qualities as footballers and also as individuals are very clear for everyone to see, so this is very good news for us.

“They have both been very important for the club on and off the pitch, and with Adam Lallana leaving us their contribution becomes even more crucial next season.”

Can't see the logic in this. He'll be 39 in January 2025, hasn't played since January 2024. Originally due to a thigh injury that's gone on and on. Giving him another year looks like a sinecure for the spavined.

No way is he able to cover at Full Back. Pace has gone. He looks like he's towing a caravan.

Think this last season was a bit of an aberration injury wise. He's usually available. Don't love it, but can see some upsides. Hopefully he's available every game from bench.

RDZ has his favourites... Usually the older lot and especially the bigger names

He must be really good in the dressing room as I can only think of one good game he’s had (Spurs) in the minimal amount he’s been available for.
Think we can add the Luton home game to that too although in rare instances he's come on late to protect a lead and done the job. His experience in the dressing room we don't see but Roberto does so that'll do for me.

ok for midfield cover, if playing full back it's blocking potential youngsters.

though how useful is cover that's not available?

I just don’t get it. And makes me worried that we aren’t going to have the balls/ruthlessness to do the fairly major surgery that the squad needs. Welbeck, Gross, Dunk, Veltman, Steele is plenty of ‘old heads’ for the dressing room.

Don’t tell me Dunk and Gross will also be with us next season  .

A current German international and a current England international there....

But we also have a lot of kids.

And also quite a few mid career players.

That's the trouble with the Albion. Too many young, mid career and experienced players. It's all wrong and has DOOMED written all over it.

With Adam going I’m happy he is staying. We don’t want too many oldies but having some experience is vital when we have so many young players. He’s not the only one to have a bad injury this season.
The Spurs game was obviously his best game but he was also important coming off the bench v Marseille at home. I see him as useful to bring off the bench in the last 15 minutes and both Klopp and De Zerbi seem to agree.
