he’s a good choice for a rebuild but it’s still a very tall order. there’s a lot of shifting to do, looking at that squad i’d say:

rashford
bruno
antony
maguire
mctominay
lindelof
casemiro

are all either toxic or not good enough, and getting rid would involve taking a big financial hit on the likes of antony. and that’s before you take into account that varane is also leaving. and even then you have players who aren’t necessarily toxic but have huge egos, like garnacho, who i also think he’d struggle to manage. wouldn’t imagine he’d react well to being put at wing back.

it’s far too much to do in one or two transfer windows, and i simply think the board wouldn’t give him the time to make the changes he’d want to make. would be interesting to see regardless

I could understand the Potter hype if he had actually seen a project through and won something significant in a decent league. So far I can’t see the achievements which would earn a job at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

The dream team is Sean Dyche AND Graham Potter.
Dyche clears out the dead wood and scares them.
Potter comforts them and builds them up.
Potter teaches them to build from the back.
Dyche tells them when they need to lump it.
Potter sets them up for pretty football without any goals, Dyche makes it uglier with goals.
Potter concentrates on process, Dyche on results.
Modest 5% of both contracts for my input thanks Mr Ratcliffe.

Yeah, but look at the money he was on at Chelsea (£10m+ a year?) and what the England job pays (£3m?). The days of the FA paying Capello and Eriksson all the money in the world are long gone.

I threw in Ferguson and Wenger as having not achieved much before they arrived in the PL, didn’t realise they had both won things at a decent level before. I remember the “Arsene who” comments on his appointment

Roberto is paid peanuts according to Premier league managers salaries! Only 1.5 million a year with Bournemouths Areola on less!! Apart from 3 unknowns (Glasner, O'Neil and Wilder), the rest earn more with top clubs paying 5+times as much as Bloom🤣🤣

There's been lots of rumours about Potter for the England job - I can't see it working tbh. Potter needs lots of time with the players to get his methods / tactics across. You don't get that with a national side. His methods also take some time (even with lots of training ground work - that he won't get) to bear fruit. Replicate his first two seasons' form at the Albion, and you are talking about England failing to qualify for tournaments - never mind tanking in them.

Some fair points, but we would still qualify for tournaments no matter who the manager is given the poor quality opponents who feature in qualifying. I'd fancy myself to dig out a result against San Marino.

That fanbase need to realise they are not the Manchester United we all grew up despising. The Treble, the Class of '92, Fergie time - that's all ancient history, relatively speaking.

What they are now is a sometimes better than average top half Premier League team with a disjointed squad, a stadium with its own water feature and a history of onboarding ineffective managers.

Until they get out of their own shadow they will be in this state of constant "But...but...we're UNITED!!"

And long may it continue. I sometimes wonder how the United fans I had to listen to at school feel now.

In some ways they're like the United I grew up with in the 1970s. After Mat Busby retired and before Fergie they had a succession of managers and won nothing except the odd FA Cup - and they got relegated in that time as well. (Which I can't see happening in this era of Haves and Have Nots). The shadow of Busby was long and only SAF was able to step out of it. Who will be the new SAF?

However the memory of the Busby Babes and being the first English club to win the European Cup was more than enough though to give the Man U fans a lasting sense of entitlement. Some things never change.
