I would say a loan to Ipswich would be almost perfect for both Carl and Brighton.
A chance to play and develop at a high level and lots of saving practice every week.

A loan is more likely IMO. He’s one of England’s most highly rated young keepers, can’t see us selling, yet.

A loan to Ipswich would be perfect.

My view is that we let Steele go and bring back Rushworth.

Rushworth could not have done any more from his loans, and surely that is the point? I get that he won't want to sit on the bench for a whole season, but then I don't think Verbruggen has been so outstanding that his place is automatic.

The stats show Verbruggen is a better keeper than Steele, so will he feel any pressure or competition for his place in 2024/25 if Steele remains? I think to be a top team there needs to be competition for places throughout the side.

I think Rushworth will benefit from learning from De Zerbi and having a full pre-season, and we can make a decision on him in a year's time.

3. Steele (with a view to becoming GK Coach)

Surely that would work well? Maybe not for Steele, but depends what he wants, I guess. He might be OK with it.

Steele seems a great bloke and is almost the ideal back-up, but Arsenal? They're really in for a League 1 keeper who's top of PL with his feet and good in the locker-room?

Rushworth already a better keeper and could be learning our style and personel. Playing some games and ready for every game if there's an injury.

Keep sending Beadle on loans by all means but

All very well saying fight for your place, but that's not easy when actual game time is limited to 6-7 cup games over a 9 month season.

It's a conundrum for Rushworth, not only because Bart is number 1 but also because he has to watch out, Beadle's about.

Unfortunately, for him, we have a GK blocking his path who is a year younger and already has 5 senior caps for the Dutch national team.

If we had 3 similarly talented U21 midfielders that we could rotate in the starting 11 tactically over the season and bring off the bench as fresh legs for 30 minute cameos, we'd be sorted.

Yes, agree with that.
He could replace Verbruggen when we sell him for £90m to Chelsea in a season or two.
A loan to Ipswich would be ideal in that McKenna plays a similar style to RDZ and so Carl gets used to that. He’ll get plenty of practice for a team that will probably be in the lower half of the division and he can become accustomed to the Premier League. It’s taken Bart a good few months to do likewise.
Also, as a development option for the player himself, going to Ipswich is probably the best option for him. Development is one of the main reasons players come to Brighton so our development path is key to keeping and attracting players.
If he goes there on loan then I would expect no purchase option. We rate him very highly.

But we can only loan one player to Ipswich, and I seem to recall it being said if they secured promotion Sarmiento would stay there next season.

I was being facetious. If we replace one (failing?) goal keeper with an untested one, RDZ is likely to rotate them, meaning nothing would change.

And au contraire, football management is bloody difficult. :thumbsup:

Quite a few experienced keepers have gone to top clubs as number 3 keeper. For example, Man City have had Scott Carson warming the bench for a few years, Adrian does the same at Liverpool. Rob Green, Tom Heaton have done the same in the past.

We want two PL ready keepers and one prospect don't we?

Look at that Villa home game. Their main keeper was injured, the reserve comes in, puts in a MOM performance and keeps them in a game in which they were second best. We want a back up of that level.

Rushworth and Verbruggen should slug it out for the number one spot. May the best man win. The new Aussie could come in for 3rd choice

Scherpen is surely off.
Steele if he gets another back up role somewhere should 100% take it and be given very warm applause next time he appears at the Amex.
