I managed to get a place on a BT youth development course (2 weeks at an Outward Bounds centre in north Wales) at the age of 23 by saying in the selection interview I wanted to do the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Everyone else on the course was 17 or 18 
Yep, we managed to cut 5 miles off our hike by crossing the M27(?) in the New Forest. Needed a police escort from central reservation as was rather busy.

I was in the Boys Brigade when I was younger and got my Queens Badge, which was roughly equivalent to the Silver DoE

Anyone else going up to the Palace (not Selhurst Park) today to accompany their offspring for the Gold award ceremony? I'm not a royalist but very proud of her achievement.
Bank sent me there when I joined as a management trainee for ‘character building’. Aberdovey. No, but I went with my daughter in 1993. My son received his at Kensington Palace.

Gold expedition 1977 Brecon. Gave teacher our route. Four blokes dropped at start point. Left on own for three days to hit pick up point. VERY different to today.
