I’m not exactly really sure where to start with this but I’ll start with the bolded text…..who said this? Certainly not the author of the survey.
I didn't say the author did - my point was that the survey is pointless. So lets say "consumer perception" and "brand management" is important in football - if Palace's marketing and brand management were better than BHA's would you switch to watching them ? Of course not. In football - and most team sports - "consumer perception" and "brand management" has no bearing on people using that "brand". Now say supermarkets I'll agree are different - brand loyalty can be bought and sold - not in football generally.

No of course I wouldn’t switch to another club. But marketing and brand management isn’t really aimed at me. It’s very important to the club, their sponsors and markets beyond us though . If the club had a difficult brand then we might not get the sponsorship deals we get.

After over 30 years in the industry she's beginning to see what a con marketing really is - as I've always said "marketing is just fluff". Here's a good example - Easyjet claiming their flights are carbon "neutral" ( other airlines claim the same ) - something you've claimed in the past to justify using their flights - hmmmm - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001zd68/panorama-big-brands-green-claims-uncovered - marketing is just untruths designed to persuade people to buy a product or service they wouldn't buy if they knew the truth.
You’re answering a slightly different question. You said consumer perception and brand management are tosh. At the simplest level, surely it is important if a brand has a good or bad rep? That is, it’s not tosh.

The dissertation I am working on is for a marketing and management degree which is why certain questions are asked. The point of the project is not to suggest that fans should switch teams, it is to further understand what football fans think about the industry and deduce how this affects clubs.

Quite. Anyone reading this would think why would I want to involve myself with that miserable cynical old fart brand.

The answer (for you) is yes.

You’re welcome.
If it's any consolation, it took me several minutes to work out that the question was not an either/or option, and that the OP considers the terms 'football consumer' and 'fan of a football club' as the same thing and are interchangeable. I think. Although I'm still not entirely sure...

Football consumers can watch the premier league every week but not have a team they support, therefore they are not a fan of a club

I got this far and I was out. Personally, I mean it’s probably due to my lack of education but I can’t hold a conversation based on this. If I want to talk about how I support my club and what it means to me I’ll do it with someone that drinks in The Railway Bell and /or (although I may not agree with what they’ve done ) has a banning order. I’ll have more in common. The questions, as is with all these student ones, might as well be in Arabic

Having posted your survey on a football message board, and presumably other message boards, how many folks do you anticipate answering 'No' to that question? Don't you think you could have added more value to the survey by phrasing the question 'Do you consider yourself a consumer of football or a fan of a club? Plus maybe a third option for those special people that just stumbled upon the survey and probably don't know what it is. Probably the kind of simple soul that frequents a Fans Forum.

Don't wjsh to be overly-harsh, but maybe take this as the peer review that is so sorely missing. For example, if the 'Which club do you support?' box was a drop-down list, instead of free format, you might just have saved yourself a whole world of correlation pain.

F*ck it, good luck with the survey anyways

Mate - I glaze over when the words 'brand management' are used, mainly because I have very
little idea what it means. But good luck with the survey.

It doesn't work that well. I can truly attest to that.

Brighton was my uni-mate's team. When growing up in Brighton his father worked in London. He was from Singapore originally. He had to remind me of that through an email.

A friend from a baseball message board had spent a 1/2 year in Sussex.

That is how I chose Brighton and they seemed a team that could get promoted so some what TB's forward thinking.

Erm, given that you've sent this questionnaire to NSC, are you expecting many people to answer 'No' to the question 'Are you a football consumer or fan of a football club?' Isn't the question redundant?

In addition, as you conflate 'football consumer' and 'football fan' in that question, some of the supplementary questions will not have the specificity of being answered by a football consumer or a football fan, no?

Thanks I am no expert so the comments are helpful and I will change the wording of this question
