I thought Barco played an impressive starting debut tonight. He was energetic and committed to driving the game forward even when he was playing LB - some forgivable but costly mistakes one of which was complicit in us conceding but when you have the top team in the world’s forwards bearing down in you, it is a lot to ask of a 19 year old kid especially in a system that is playing out from the back in a high risk strategy.

Some very neat footwork and he got involved wherever he could which I love about him. He still has trouble taking on defenders when he moved into a CMF role but he won a few corners and played some great balls in.

Very impressive he managed 95 mins, it took Gilmore and Facu months before they managed that so his condition seems good but he looked noticeably tired by 80 mins. He does remind me if Facu - lots of raw talent and both love to play across a wide area of the pitch - and an air of smash and grab about them both 🙂

I think he will be one of our star players by this time next season.
Agree. I thought he was terrific.

I like the way he properly pings his passes into feet.

An obvious cock up for the Foden goal, but he's being asked to take huge risks at the back, they all are. Those ones are down to the playing style

I believe he is a much better left back than left winger and I think on that form he's got a great chance of being first choice left back for the next season.

I said on the match thread RDZ threw him under a bus starting him against Man City at left back. As game went on I was proved right.

He looked much more comfortable further forward with Igor behind.

RDZ is making too many of these mistakes at the moment.

Agree. He looked out of his depth at left back. Out of position for first goal, gifted them the third, a few other mistakes in there as well. Much better up field.

The risks taken at playing from the back under such pressing are suicidal and we were under so much pressure and couldn't get out of our half without giving the ball away.

His first touch looks epic at times, raw talent but a LOT to work with

Looks like he’s got a peach of a left foot on him..understandably raw..more good than bad though I thought..one lovely ball across their defence in the second half..loves a sliding tackle as well!

Good full debut. There was a moment he got the ball late in the second half and every other player would have played the single ball back to Dunk but he was immediately turning and looking to play the forward ball. I'd play him on Sunday before we train that sort of fast forward football out of him.
I guess the most likely outcome is that he comes out of the team for Sunday and Igor slots in. But I think he'll play more than he doesn't for the rest of the season

Thought he looked out of his depth, personally. 100% sure he is going to come good though, flashes of brilliance and he’s only young. I’d be tempted to give him a loan abroad next year.

I think some people were so desperate for him to play, they can't say anything other than he had a good game. I was expecting to come on here and see lots of posts about how maybe De Zerbi was right and he isn't quite ready (when he was signed De Zerbi said he saw him as one for the future rather than someone ready to jump straight in).

I'm not writing him off, just acknowledging he is young and is taking a big step up in league football. Let's all ease off on treating him like he's already a proven game winner who De Zerbi is inexplicably leaving on the bench.
