What is the Swan like these days pre-match?

Not been for a few years but I'm taking my elderly father in law tonight, he likes a real ale or two, and would prefer to take him for a drink somewhere other than a packed concourse, ideally with a seat. Is it packed even if we get there early (approx. two hours prior to kick off)?

Packed concourse Swans could be awful.

2 hours before you may get a seat but you’ll be lucky. If you ordered and sat outside if the weathers nice that’s an option. I’ve always found the service very good in there.

If the Barn bit is open you'll get a seat but need to be a bit earlier inside. I always find it pretty tranquil and easy to get served when I've been.

Why not take him to Dicks Bar sponsored by Harvey’s which is real ale enough? Providing you get there early to avoid queuing. It’s comfortable and good atmosphere pre match. Anyway, that would be my preference. Enjoy the match!

How early is early these days ? I arrived at the ground about 2 hours before KO a couple of weeks ago and the queue was still massive.

Depends on KO times. I tend to be 3hrs before simply because I need P&R and you’re fecked if you’re not in Mill Rd within 20mins of it opening.

The Swan is great pre-match especially if the weather is nice to sit/stand outside with a drink. However I'd suggest Dick's for your needs, especially if you're prepared to get there 2+ hours before kick off.

You need a long neck to go in there

Blimey. Wonder how many of those happy to get to the ground 3 hours early simply HAVE to leave on 85 mins to get home a bit quicker 🤣🤣
No idea. Inbound is different mind. The club hasn’t a duty to get me to the ground until I park. Given I travel such a long distance I really am a bit screwed unless I can park. Outbound They have to get me back to my car whether I choose to leave early, on FW or an hour after.

Cross over to the Uni Student bar and its £4.00 a pint for most beers.
We're parking at the Uni, so this could be an option. He's a relatively sprightly 88, but not sure the student union is quite his vibe...

Thanks for all suggestions. I think due to uni parking we will chance it at the Swan.
