may well be a thread already on this and if so merge, but la liga’s president has suggested league matches could be played abroad from the 2025/26 season, including in the USA

think they tried this a couple of years ago and it caused a big uproar, but it seems to be an ever increasing possibility. no doubt if that were to happen the PL would soon follow suit, in the name of ‘staying competitive’, and would probably start in english football with the FA cup semis or the EFL cup final. have to say, the day that happens would be they day i am done with top-level football. imagine, for example, being a coventry fan unable to see your team play a once-in-a-lifetime game because is behind held in arlington, texas. wish the super league clubs, who are obviously the ones driving this, would just f*** off and leave the rest of us in peace

Yes...and no doubt some La Liga/ fifa official will produce a spreadsheet proving the proposal would be carbon neutral 🤦🏼‍♂️

The Spanish Super Cup (winners + runners up of the Copa Del Rey and La Liga) has already been played in Saudi for the last few years, so its not much of a leap to see them farming out more games overseas.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Community Shield being played in the USA before long, probably as part of a culmination of a USA tour. Wouldn't overly bother me. But any ideas of exporting PL games over there can get in the SEA.

There are NFL matches in London and those sides only have 8 home league matches in the regular season.

Bottom line - If the Yanks want to watch Ipswich vs Bournemouth or Everton vs Palace then good luck to them.

It’s to be the much touted “39th match” quite how they decide who plays who I don’t understand but they are to be played in US at first but possibly China Japan Saudi etc as years go by.

In America the matches will apparently include a 5 man penalty shootout at the end of each half to increase the score but only 5 so as to still leave a draw as a possible result

"What bollox!! I think they should have been rewarded a corner.

Oh, when they say tie they mean the game NOT that the match was level."

Chelsea is playing Celtic in a friendly in South Bend, Indiana (home of University of Notre Dame and Pete Buttigieg) on July 27, 2024 and an hour from me. But, of course, not a Cup match or PL match.

To draw attention to world problems, perhaps Premier League games could be played in Gaza, the Yemen, the Donbass etc. I'm sure watching Chelsea getting stuffed would bring a little joy to those now suffering in Palestine.
