[News] Government smoking ban.

I saw a suggestion online the other day that they all ought to wear their sponsors on their suits like snooker players do, so we all know who it is they're speaking on behalf of when they stand in the Commons, and it's honestly one of the best suggestions I've heard in ages
As an avowed anti smoker I would just like to say.

I am not entirely sure what it is we have won and the main impact may just be to piss off a few types I really dislike - Hurray
Now how do we manage the next couple of decades until this marvellous change has its full benefit? We just need to find our anti smoking guru. Is David Davis interested? Anything else is minor detail suck it up losers.

A lot of countries only sell alcohol through specific shops. Not through supermarkets etc
Possibly, or i might even consider a licence scheme similar to Dubai where you get a licence to BUY Alcohol from warehouses or similar.

Absolutely this. Vaping is supposed to be an anti-smoking tool, not a lifestyle choice (and especially not one "implicitely" marketed at youths).
Flavoured tobacco was banned a few years ago. Flavoured vapes should be too.
Sorry but i just want to discourage people sat in their homes all day drinking cheap booze and the likelihood if their in a relationship abusing their partners and inevitably wasting Police resource who have to come round and deal with the mess, it’ll be tough to start with but eventually society will be much the better for less boozing.
Against the ban
Would wipe out half the shops in Boundary Road, but I'm sure there are some Turkish Barbers waiting in the wings just in case.

They would do better to control illegal vapes and selling them to kids. I would have put vapes in the same category as tobacco and raised the age to 18. It’s another form of tax income that will now have to be spread across everyone. On top of this I can see people looking for substitutes - illegal drugs etc.
I don’t smoke any more but do have a problem with a continual reduction in civil liberties. It will be alcohol next, then a limit on what sort of personal transport you have, what type of house you have and whether or not you can own it. Bloody hell, they’ll be putting a ban on bottle tops, flasks and eating your own food before long. (Oh shit, someone’s already thought of that).

I've never smoked, Mrs Casper now vapes and junior is 10 so I hope to god he doesn't. I think tobacco should just be banned full stop. yes it will still get in on black market but it will restrict it for the vast majority. A knock on will be the reduction in weed consumption (I am aware it can be smoked in pipes and bongs but not as easy in a car/bus shelter etc)
I also think drink should be prohibitively expensive at home to encourage people to go to pubs, clubs, cafes, etc. (reduce the cost in venues) this is more social, can be policed better by staff and landlord and may stop or slow down drink related health issues. This might help with loneliness, communities and such.

How soon is now?
Was discussing this yesterday with my 15 yo son. I know the line has to be drawn somewhere, but we agreed that it was odd that when 18, should he decide to start smoking he could, and then could for the rest of his life. But his mate who is 5 days younger will never legally be allowed to smoke.
As an ex-smoker, and anti-smoker I still think the choice should be with the individual. Smoking will always be around, either under or over ground...

Why don't you bugger off and live in Sweden then?
To be honest I have asked myself this a few times, as I do have a liking for all the Scandic countries. Swedes or at least the ones I have had sensible conversations with, seem to be supportive of their alcohol restrictions (although things do get a little lively around mid summer). Supermarkets can only sell beer below 3.5%. Stronger alcohol is only available via systembolaget, which is government owned.
