That is indeed priceless. Is there a word for when you whoosh yourself? For when you speak the truth, but utterly fail to realise the significance?
Even after you have proof-read it, published it, and are now trying to defend it to a large audience?

Truss continues to suffer from a toxic combination of ignorance and arrogance, that causes her to be blind to the possibility that the early curtailment of her catastrophic tenure as PM was of her own making.

Today, eighteen months later, she still doesn't see it.....

• Trying to avoid political points on a money show, he says the long term hit to the UK economy and reputation was far worse than reported
• The best that can be said about the Truss/Kwateng duo is they were reckless ( neither had much qualification and sacked the in place chief treasury official out of spite ASAP)
• Ignoring the transition of Brexit, he says the tax cut for growth plan might have had merit (a big ideological if) but was particularly reckless was paying for it by borrowing *after* dramatic interest rate rises following Russia invasion/gas price driven inflation - and while subsidising our heating bills.
• Anyone could see real-time actually acceleration tax cut paid for by borrowing just because she said she would in her campaign was reckless to an extreme - and the financial markets could see that would cause a run on the pound and selling of government gilts (so damaging UK reputation for credit worthiness and making borrowing even more expensive).
• Even the Queen (quoted against protocol in LT's book) advised her, as for all her PMs, to try not to rush unnecessarily...
• LT/KK weren't helped by incompetence of the BoE, that wasn't aware of a vulnerability of pension funds to falling gilt prices.
• With all this, she still stuck it to 'the establishment' but doing what she said she would in her stupid book and speeches...
• No PM, least of all Cons., can sack their Chancellor and survive - she went ahead and lasted 2 more days in office., after Jeremy Hunt stepped in to head off full on Weimar republic.
• Peston asked a question about this stuff and make her cry.

I think it should be purely the remit of the MPs to pick their own leader/Prime Minister.

Many of the problems we've had over the last 9 years on both sides seem to have stemmed from both parties having leaders that most of their own MPs didn't want.

there's a good point there. the ideal of lower taxes stimulating growth is very good. there's probably a lot of other good ideas about increasing growth. unfourtunatly they dont really work alongside our demographics. and by "our" i mean the west, which have universally fallen in to this low productivity trap. Japan went before us and had essentially multi decade recession which we may well follow. it may well be unfixable, how do you grow an economy when half the population is non-productive. unless something very fundemental changes or we alter expectations?
