With all the Tory MPs giving up it will be entertaining/ depressing to see the quality of candidates that they choose to replace them.

Tim Loughton, Easy Worthing and Shoreham, has given up.

Not one of his constituents so I don't know if he was a 'good' MP at that level.

I am aware of some rather grubby expenses.

However, my impression was that he was less of an utter scumbag than the average Tory of late.

Anyway, off you trot.

He was, for an extensive period of time, my MP. Good riddance.

Jumped ship as polling has shown his seat will go to Labour at next election

Very happy to see him go. Unfortunately his legacy is to have encouraged and championed the over development of Shoreham with unaffordable, ugly, out of place blocks of flats.

He’s as much of a **** as the rest of them.

"When LBC’s Nick Ferrari put it to him that his record as an election winner made him the equivalent of Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson, and asked if he had any advice for Sunak, whom Ferrari described as the team’s Erik ten Hag, Cameron suggested a Tory recovery was possible.

"I prefer to point to the example of Unai Emery for [Aston] Villa yesterday who looked like they were on a losing run against Arsenal and in the last few minutes slotted into two. So anything is possible in football as in politics.""

Yeah: - Up Emery's Super Hammers, eh Dave?

I'm not sure about Ferrari's analogy. I suppose failing to win an overall majority, but sneaking in with a coalition, could be compared to the 1990 FA Cup win with Nick Clegg playing Lee Martin, but I seem to remember Ferguson went on to win 13 League titles, whereas Cameron limped to one overall win before gambling away the nation's future and doing a bunk. I'd suggest a better football manager analogy might be Don Revie.

Not strictly an election, but he didn't do so well in 2016 when there was another quite important vote for the country...

He was riding the crest of the wave having won two other referenda. What he didn't factor in was that he had the press on his side for those two, whereas he didn't for the one that followed.

But its worse than that, 1 in 5 want more of the same and another 1 in 7 are convinced Farage's latest iteration will somehow be our saviour.

I just really hope its the UK is the first western country to properly bin populism and it isn't just a brief rest bite before another bunch of grifters become the flavour of the month.

It really does feel at times that we are addicted to self harm.
Nigel Farage and Suella Braverman have been at a 'convention' in Belgium, under the guise of National Conservatism, with Viktor Orban due to speak to tomorrow, but the Mayor of Brussels has had enough and sent the police in, after complaints. The place holds 800, and around 250 turned up.

Amusing.

But probably a bad development. They will be able to claim, with some justification, that their right to peacefully state their views has been frustrated by an executive power because it disagrees with them.

Although Farage and their like shouldn't have their voices artificially amplified, they should be allowed to be heard .... and have their feeble utterings robustly debunked

The meltdown continues from a majority of 80 in 2019, now only 43, with nearly 60 current Tories not wanting to stand again.

A Conservative MP has lost the party whip after an investigation was launched following claims that he misused campaign funds.

Mark Menzies, 52, also faced allegations that he made a late-night call to a 78-year-old aide asking for help because he had been locked up by “bad people” demanding thousands of pounds for his release.

But what about Angela Rayner and her 1500 quid?
