NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott identified as courageous officer who took down knifeman Joel Cauchi

The identity of the heroic police officer who single-handedly took down a crazed knifeman at a Bondi shopping centre has been revealed.

NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott has been hailed a hero for her bravery at Westfield Bondi Junction in Sydney on Saturday when she shot Joel Cauchi dead to stop his murderous rampage.

Cauchi reportedly lunged at Insp Scott after she yelled at him to put the knife down — forcing her to pull the trigger.

I’m sure more and more information will come out over the coming days, but it seems it’s a universal problem agnostic to country, about the lack of resources to help those suffering mental health issues. Not sure the above photo is needed. She did her job, that was sadly required on someone who was very ill. I feel for her, along with all the families and people affected by this.

Agreed. The photo is part of the report linked to, to be fair to Perth Seagull so can be seen, if you want to, by clicking the link.

In general I’ll repeat Bozza’s message to not post press photos on here where the copyright isn’t yours.

Correct, didn’t need reposting on here due to its content without a warning. Thanks

Why is that a key question? What are you suggesting?

Probably several million people 'known to the police' in this country. Either on the Police National Computer (PNC) and/or the DNA database.

If you got arrested for Drunk & Disorderly 20 years ago, you are 'known to police'.
He had a history of domestic violence according to news reports. I’m not sure if he was the perpetrator or victim.

The is a photo of the knifeman here. Will fuel the fire of conspiracy theorists: 'looks like an ordinary looking white bloke - but is he?'.

I stated that it looked like a mental health issue and so the key question is why was he known to police. It has now emerged that he has had known mental health issues since the age of 17 and is itinerant. That's why he was known to police.

Rachel Riley, and she still hasn’t deleted her X post, despite being informed of Joel Cauchi’s identity.

The surely soon to be unemployed and forgotten about Rachel Riley made this claim.
Rachel Riley seems to tweet the sort of rants and accusations the critics of Gary Lineker wrongly think he does, yet receives barely any of the criticism he does

I've just read through her posts, she is bizarre. Even now she knows it wasn't related in any way to terrorism, she is still standing by her opinion it is related and trying to draw it together, saying this is what Palestinians want..She is slightly unhinged, and thats very dangerous rhetoric...She doesn't permit anyone to post anything back to her on it either...I thikn that feature needs to be removed from twitter...why post if you aren't going to enagage in response...narcissistic?

Because X/Twitter is an echo chamber - people don’t engage in anything that doesn’t support their PoV. Why anyone would even bother giving her page views is beyond me but they do sadly - X is an unmoderated and toxic environment most of the time why anyone takes it seriously as a platform for serious issues is beyond me.
