i dont know why the world and dog desires "WW3" so much. i've read both Jordan and Syria are intending to intercept drones, reports RAF has already done so on patrolling Iraq boarder. decades ago there were conflicts between Israel and every one of it's neighbours, that didnt bring about a new world war - why would it now when its only Iran that is hard against them?

I agree - it does seem hawkish and alarmist to talk of WW3 but what does a WW3 look like? All out nuclear war or does it start with conventional weapons with each attack escalating further?

- a direct war with Iran would be a far more existential situation for Israel than a war with Lebanon or Syria. Iran is a massive presence in the ME , incredibly well armed with highly sophisticated military technology and proxy groups all over the ME that could do a lot off damage to Israel but also to American bases all over the ME. .

That and what is going on in Ukraine ..,

It is all a very different world than it was decades ago and it’s on a tinderbox.

Mod edit title to include Iran? A small chance this is the start of WW3, let's have it clear for people visiting the site can quickly find it.
First time visitor to the thread as I didn't know enough at the start, still don't know much about it, as I've had my fingers in my ears. Ukraine thread has been bad enough. It's even more disturbing that there are going to be more countries added to this thread. I am now wondering how long is it going to be until a WW3 thread has to be started. WTF is going on in this world. :(

Iran has declared via UN they've made their point, they've completed the retaliation for the attack on the Damascus embassy. like the nation state version of slapping Israel with a glove.

There’s a lot of background on this thread explaining how we got here tonight if you do want to catch up - Please though, not another War thread - especially one called ‘WW3’ ffs!!

Does anyone get the feeling that this is what Netanyahu wanted all along ?

No, I don't want to catch up and I definitely don't want a WW3 thread! I'm just concerned that having to add countries to threads already going (the poster I was replying to, made a probably sensible suggestion) makes things look pretty grim when we're adding countries to thread titles. It's not about the thread contents, it's about having to add countries to the thread titles and if we're going to be added to one of the titles. I'm going off to another thread now, I have made my only contributions to this one. (y)

My conspiracy theory/fear now is that Israel is trying to drag Hezbollah into the conflict to prepare the ground work for the US/Israel (and presumably would drag her allies into it - us included) to attack Iran under the auspices of ‘defending of Israel …? 😳

.. the response wasn’t exactly encouraging though

Jesus,.. your conspiracy paranoia is palpable... I don't know how you get up in the mornings....

Since then I think I have said on numerous occassions that Netanyahu has a wider agenda of trying to escalate a regional ‘war against terror’ to ‘deal’ once and for all with the problem of Iran so he can pursue his expansionist policies in Palestine - It is also clear, the US is either colluding with Israel through back channels or being manipulated by Netanyahu into a direct confrontation with Iran that neither Iran nor the US want.

It did seem to me like he was poking the bear after the embassy attack. He knows that the U.S won't fail to wade in if Iran attacks Israel in any sustained way.

"We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries."

I just can't can't believe what I'm watching here. It's like all the adults have left the room.

Oh no. It’s alternative reality man

Of course it is what the hawks in Israel wanted

US support faltering as Gaza children starve.
Netanyahu internal support lowest ever.

Provoke Iran and now the US get dragged in and Israelis back their govt against the common enemy.

Wake up son, wake up.
Netanyahu wants war with Iran? Get a grip…

I’m wide awake, and I’m not you son.

How so? I'd have thought the Russia/Ukraine war is more likely to start WW3.
Post 9 11 hard to imagine WW3 not involving islam to some degree and Iran is the closest thing to a muslim super power and important to know seen as a protective power like the US in the west. If Iran is attacked with severe threat of collapse hell breaks loose terror cells all over Europe. Lets face it Ukraine war is big deal but no one is starting a world war over the fate of the Ukrainian people. Iran Israel different beast US would be involved in no time. So much would be invested in this war the likes of China or Russia can do anything they want in their regions and its all on. Post cold war post 9 11 WW3 always starts with Iran vs Israel or US

Maybe this is as far as the Iranian retaliation goes for the Israeli strike that killed an Iranian commander in Damascus? For home consumption they need to be seen to be retaliating, but at the same time they must be fully aware that Israel and its allies are fully capable of neutralising that retaliation. Call it a draw? 🤞

300 plus drones and missiles resulting in minimal damage is a piss poor return for the Iranians.
it does highlight the advancement in anti drone and missile technology that will cause a fair bit of disquiet in Russia and China.
