Hi, I am a master’s student in psychology at Sheffield Hallam university conducting research for my thesis on the use of football forums and men’s mental health. I am a regular member of a football forum myself and noticed how there are threads dedicated specifically for mental health discussion and with the majority of football fans being male, I thought this may be an interesting area to research with the recent focus of encouraging men to talk more about their mental health.

I am posting this survey onto a range of club forums but was particularly eager to use this one after reading the following Guardian article on this very issue: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...internet-club-forums-twitter-youtube-facebook

If you could please spare some of your time to fill out my survey, it would be really appreciated. There are 8 main questions and feel free to write as much as you please with whatever comes into your mind. (If you can’t think of an answer to a question, you can simply ignore it and move on to the next question.)

Thanks

Done .
If it's any help I joined a local Men's Shed group after retiring , it's just nice to go along , make things and have a chat , adds routine .

Just done the survey. Actually quite thought-provoking - great questions!

Hmmm feel right excluded here!! :ROFLMAO: Joking aside its an area that needs more focus and study, NSC of course (as the article rightly alludes) is an amazing treasure trove of people willing to participate and provide advice to help others...incredible place...

No problem mate, it's a brilliant article and is really useful for me, especially with the lack of research in this area.

Thank you for all your responses so far guys!
Sorry, much as I muchly respect the questionaire, am really not convinced that you'll be able to extrapolote very much from the reponses to a series of free format text fields. Good luck anyways

It depends what the aim of the survey is. Free text has its uses and has benefits over questionnaires with just selection boxes. They can be less “leading”, can contain a deeper information and possibly things which hadn’t been considered. You can of course also categorize the free text.
