I think his head got turned at the world cup. Had to watch a perpetually inadequate Hazard get selected ahead of him. Came back in with the grumps so those last couple of months soured his time with us.

Best finisher Arsenal have by some way. Very Very good under rated player IMO
Do recall at the time plenty on here calling him a “1 in 3” player; ie he had 1 good match in 3 for us. That he often didn’t “turn up” for matches was an opinion expressed loads on here long before he left us.
Personally think he’s a class player and gutted he left but it’s not entirely true to say it is rewriting history or at least plenty had similar views when he was still with us.

He has been very effective for them coming on as sub - Arsenal can afford to play him from the bench. I suspect he’s quite happy play 15 to 30 minutes a week.

Nah you can’t question his effort, that’s unfair. He’s just that type of talented attacking player that it’s not possible for them to turn it on or produce something in every game but it’s not fair to say he didn’t put effort in.
He was under appreciated here as he’s just that type of player that Brighton, and English fans generally don’t appreciate enough. We’d much rather a tough tackling defensive midfielder playing 70 safe, non productive passes a match while clocking up 10 miles, a centre back who heads the ball a lot or a full back who gets up and down the line. The real talents, game changers, get overlooked all the time.

WC final was on 18 Dec 22, he signed for Arse on 21 Jan 23, so it was hardly months. Agree that the WC was the turning point. He was lacklustre in our next game back which was the Carabao game at Charlton, and it was pretty obvious he wanted out from them, with the contretemps with the Lana coming soon after.
He definitely had periods (matches) when he disappeared and seemed to show no effort. Not saying others don't do it but right through his time with us he was very hit and miss. When he was on song he could be brilliant , he just didn't do it often enough. He was also prone to liking an injury early on in a game - many memories of him limping after the first challenge. That all said I wish he had stayed but with a better attitude.Nah you can’t question his effort, that’s unfair. Because as per your point, the majority are inconsistent. Player of the season, for me is about a player who consistently produces week in, week out, not a 1 in 3…Nah you can’t question his effort, that’s unfair. I would take Pascal over Trossard every day of the week, also Caicedo.
Trossard was great in Potter’s last season and from when RdZ took over, prior to that he wasn’t even a 1 in 3, though to be fair perhaps that was because of the personnel around him.
