totally agree with this. I still think the new rules were draconian in the face of a small problem. Wednesday my son was ill so didn’t go. Previously I’d have passed on to a friend who could have gone to a match that he would never have got a ticket for. I think there was value in that. Instead we had an empty seat. Makes no sense.
Assuming your son hadn't been randomly selected to pick up his ticket on the day, you still could've passed it on. What was stopping you?

Well of course he should have passed it on so that person could then have been randomly checked outside the Brentford ground (which my son was) and then caught and his son banned

Probably the email we all receive before an away game saying we could be randomly asked for ID - which has to match the name on the ticket - as we enter the ground. It's only ever happened at Palace for me - but just not worth the risk and the consequences.

I guess that might have stopped @Giraffe

EDIT: @Beach Hut beat me to it :D

There are a lot of fans who have served bans, or are serving bans, because they gave a ticket to A.N.Other and that fan was ID checked at the away ground and their ID didn't match the name on the ticket, eg...

...as such most fans who are aware of the rules and the risks will not share their ticket if they are unable to use it, meaning seats remain empty.

Fair enough, but I think my post was overly subtle and it was a loaded question. I should've just made the point that these are not new draconian rules; it is in fact the law and has been in place since the 90s and that's what is stopping the transfer.

Just wanted to point out it’s “the law” as BHAFC don’t have anything in the ticket terms and conditions to allow for transferring (or returning) of away tickets. If the club were to put something in the t&cs then it is completely legal.

Again,, fair point. However, they do try and enable resale of returns if it’s early enough (to the appropriate loyalty level). However, if they enabled this on match day then you’d end up with lots of those randomly selected to pick up their tickets in person suddenly being ill on the morning of the game.

Agree with that. Do think to stop sudden mystery illnesses tickets can only be resold (like the exchange for home games) rather than transferred.

I'm Albion+ and do I'd say 75% of aways - I have about 280 points because of this and accept that I cannot do Bournemouth, fulham, brentford but until this season could stilll do the big london games (Europe obviously changed away attendances for points).

Your friend unfortunately has come up with a solution for a problem that does not exist, but he assumes does.

My issue is not being able to get a season ticket to actually transfer my member points into anything actually meaningful.
This. I've had a shot at attending every away game in the league except those in London and Luton (and even two Europa League matches), the problem is qualifying for a season ticket when I've attended more away and non-league home games than league home games this season.

It is baffling that there is no way to recycle unused tickets. If the club are informed then they can allocate the loyalty points appropriately to counter the harvesting concerns. With digital tickets this should not be a problem at all, just cancel and reallocate via email. Even with paper tickets make them collection at the ground only with the usual ID checks. I've had to collect tickets at the away box office a few times and this works absolutely fine.

We are now in the 21st Century and this lack of flexibility seems ridiculous to me.
