It would be a madness if our corners ever beat the first man
It wouldn't matter if they did as Dunk has to foul the entire Arsenal team to get to the first man.

It's the footballing equivalent of missing your motorway exit and just turning around to get back to where you should be anyway.

Did seem a really bizarre tactic. Had to act like a battering ram trying to force his way through a packed sea of players.
Arsenal's corners on the other hand were sublime - very dangerous

And we have a guy who’s literal full time job is ‘set piece coach’ 🙄

Doesn’t help that Gross appears to have turned in to Dean Cox with his inability to beat the first man
I was watching the Ipswich Norwich game earlier and they said that Norwich sacked the set piece coach and they haven't looked back since, scoring for fun now. Maybe we should row them out.

Gross taking every single corner drives me mad, I know Solly was taking some. We need an alternative quickly.
I’m not sure I’m allowed to say this on here for fear of the uberfan police, but, I don’t think Gross is very good at taking set pieces.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Let me start by saying Pascal Gross is my favourite player.

But we need someone else on corners.

Gross' deadballs have led to 2 Premier League goals all season, he's taken 243 deadballs, 92 of those were corners. (Dead balls include free kicks, corner kicks, kick offs, throw-ins and goal kicks). So at the very best 2.2% of his corners have resulted in a goal.

Last season, according to OPTA 15.8% of corners, from all teams combined, led to goals in the Premier League.

So if Pascal had been as efficient as those OPTA stats he'd have created 14 goals, from corners, this season.

His weak corners are effectively 12 goals below par.

Remember when we used to get excited with a corner? These days we might as well give the opposition a goal kick, at least we’d avoid getting caught on the break.

I have commented on it on another thread but we really should be looking for an alternative to Gross on all set pieces. I find it hard to believe nobody else could do better, they’d certainly struggle to do worse

Given how RDZ has us playing such great passing football and is fanatical about it. Why hasn’t he taken time out to do something about set pieces?

I do agree, but Gross must have been told to aim for the near post.

I’d like to see Pervis on the right and perhaps Adingra (based on yesterday’s team) on the left, and just drill flat and hard, none of this floated nonsense.

If you look at the stats you might as well take short corners.
Us oldies cannot accept this.

If you look at the stats you might as well not bother and go straight to the goal kick.

Have you seen Ward-Prowse's corner today?

Goal direct from it. That's what we need to do.
Bring back Kit Napier.

Scored direct vs Barrow in my first ever game.

I assumed that sort of thing happened every week.

Like with so many things in my life, how disappointed was I to become. 😥

A near post corner is fine, just as long as you have a player who can flick the ball on to the likes of Dunk. This train of players all jostling around the centre of the goal doesn’t work for us

For those watching, the first Liverpool goal today was a perfect example of this. Van Dijk wins the header near post and flicks it on for an unmarked Diaz to score from about 5 yards out. Unlike Dunk, however, he didn’t have to start from half a mile away to reach it to flick on.

Pervis did many dead ball kicks for Ecuador in the World cup and whips the ball in more than Pascal.

I have wondered for months what our specialist coach does on the training pitch

Gross is great, to say otherwise is blasphemous

However . . . he can't do everything, and clearly running from side to side repeatedly after 80+ minutes is just stupiditiy in spades.

It does scream lack of diversity from a coaching point of view

maybe no one else can kick a ball that well? Which would be a major concern,
