Some potential long-term good news: NATO considering 100bn Euro aid package to 'Trump-proof' aid for Ukraine.

That would be very good indeed, and a strong (and necessary) statement.

I hope these attacks on Russian soil don't compromise any military aid.

I feel Ukraine are well within their rights to target Russia but I thought many contributors were clear on aid being for defence?

Let's hope that, and yes those conditions had been said, especially by the US.
However, Ukraine now builds the majority of it's drones by itself and, frankly, what else can they do when western supplies have slowed.

Couple of important caveats.

Its only the US that's saying this about striking inside Russia the the targets are total legal in a war as part of aggressors war machine. The US position makes no sense in the context of Ukraine winning the war, it does if US goal is actually escalation management and Ukraine not losing versus actually winning.

The US hasn't agreed a new aid package for over 450 days and it's still stalled in Congress, Ukraine isn't getting aid from US right now. France is truly stepping up as the European champion and Macron says Ukraine must win and Paris endorses strikes inside Russia.

Ukraine isn't using foreign donated weapons to strike Russias refineries it has developed its own drones with ranges in excess of 1000km so US has no say or any moral imperative to ask Ukraine not too, even though they ask.

(The actual problem is Jake Sullivan, who has the ear POTUS)

Other reports put the number of explosions at 30-60, 60 and more than 60.

Whichever is correct, this would appear to be a concerted raid. Let's hope the explosions are not the usual Russian version of events with 'debris from drones being shot down' but instead a long line of Russian planes going 'Chlopok'.

It's a tactic that all states as well as the media use. In war or non war situations.

I'm strangely reminded of 1998 when The Sun hounded the referee who sent Beckham off and presented him to their sheep as a mentally unstable individual who shouldn't have been refereeing.
