Difference for me is that one player is trying to get to the ball and one isn’t.
In which case pretty much every corner would end up as a pen. Defenders barely look at the ball. Half the time they're just focused on "their man" not getting a clear run at it.

The first foul was from Wissa, therefore penalty.
They were both grappling each other before the ball had even been kicked. I think the ref arrived at the correct decision taking the whole incident into account. When they showed the replay, I was fairly certain he was going to stick with his original decision (unfortunately).

It was six of one half a dozen of the other, dunk was equally culpable. They fouled each other, thus cancelling each other out. Had it happened in our box with a similar situation with us defending a corner and a pen been given, I'd have gone apeshit.
The only thing that is frustrating about it, is that having been sent to the screen, Madeley managed to grow a pair, for the first time in his career, and stick with a decision.

I think Wissa committed the original foul. Two arms around Dunk’s waist effectively. Dunk tossed him to one side which upset the ref. If Dunk had scored instead of being felled, I’m sure it would have counted as I’ve seen blockers tossed off many times but no foul given.
Exactly as i saw it…….but i think we are all secretly pleased that a ref had the balls to stick with an on field decision

Yup, fairly typical its one of OUR reviews which had the never-bloody-happens rarity of a ref for once sticking to his guns. Annoying, but on this occasion correct IMO.

Tarkowski (?) two handed hard push on Maupay to flatten him before scoring for Burnley springs to mind. I still find that one of the most annoying goals we conceded and I haven’t seen anything as aggressive let go since. Harland on Webster came close but that was outside the box.

I reluctantly accept that the ref made the right decision last night

I wouldn't. It's one thing to jostle it's something altogether different to bear hug a player so they have no chance of getting into position. What was Dunk supposed to do, stand there and watch the ball fly in?

I remember a game against wolves a few seasons ago.
Corner to us.
Wolves defender effectively rugby tackles BDB to the ground.
Nothing.
Commentator made some excuse about 6 of one... etc (it wasn't)

Penalties for wrestling in the penalty box are pretty arbitrary.
It's the main reason so few goals are scored from corners.
I cant help thinking if that was a throw in a foul would have been given and probably a yellow with it. Like I said previously jostling is one thing bear hugging is something else

Shame, Wissa is clearly impeding Dunk (edited to add NOT with his arms out, his arms are clearly around him). Dunk has a brain fart and tried to fling him away (foul one says the ref), Wissa is hanging on for dear life (foul two and we're all evens says the ref)...and Dunk goes down...Thats my thinking...
I managed to view the link but annoyingly they blur the screen and show text when I try to freeze-frame. I’m now of the view had Dunk been smarter, and got around Wissa without slinging him out the way, we’d have got the penalty. I still cant see much wrong with Wissa’s block to be honest.

This happened to us a few season ago in the prem, I can't remember which defender it was but the goal scorer pushed the blocker out the way from a corner.

Was the ball in play when Dunk shrugged off Wissa? If not, then it can’t be given as a foul.
Yes it was in play. The Sky Sports highlights include a wide angle of the incident so you can see the corner being taken then the coming together between Dunk and Wissa.

Burnley.

I think it was perhaps Maupay getting literally picked up and shoved out the way. The general consensus was - he shouldn’t have been blocking so got what he deserved.

I'm just so thankful that VAR clears up these type of incidents so that nothing is ever up for debate any more. We all wanted clarity.... Didn't we ?

I won't die on this hill, but for me it was a penalty. Wissa was already holding Dunk which then forced Lewis into his foul Wissa then prevented Dunk attacking the ball. The whole series of events started with Wissa's grappling.

Corners are a minefield though as so much goes on at them that goes unpunished. I appreciate why people are praising the ref for sticking to his guns, but once VAR was involved in my view it was a penalty.

Still far from the most egregious decision there has been, so I shall just let it be.

was glad he didnt give a pen as it would of been a mockery of VAR, correct from ref
I think that is going too far.

I’d have been delighted if we’d have been given the penalty. Whilst a bit dodgy, it’s nothing compared to the VAR line drawing at Palace last season or about 1/2 dozen decisions at Spurs. Those were true VAR mockery, not yesterday’s decision.

true, but Dunk fouled first and if it was given, would of been a dreadful decision, so im glad the ref saw sense
