I have been a regular at Lush since almost day one but have never encountered "pushy sales". Maybe it's my "don't talk to me" demeanour!
What gets me is places like Savers. They have only one staff on till most of the time. I present my shopping for scanning then get bombarded with "would you like to try X fragrance?", "would you like to buy razors?". "we have X on offer today". Last time I pointed out to the Inquisition, I mean shop assistant, that there was a queue waiting and her bombarding customers with questions was just holding everybody up. The girl replied "it's not a LONG queue". FFS. I've not been back since.
Edit for balance. The best service I've had from a store for years was from Doc Marten shop in The Lanes. No hassle and really helpful.

How old is the property?
"I don't know, let me find out for you."
Is the driveway shared?
"I don't know, let me find out for you."
And at the end of viewing, where they know less about the property than what was written on the A4 printout they gave me on arrival, it's the same weak handshake and "Let me know if there's anything else I can help with." Useless.

I do largely like to be left alone if I’m shopping for casual clothes or humdrum items such as moisturiser or crisps. But I’ll pass the time of day with shop staff or other customers if it arises.
If I’m buying work or outdoors gear I’ll usually seek a conversation as I enjoy talking kit.
If I’m buying music. I still regularly buy CD’s. I quite like a chat and some recommendations.
But yeah. Why not have a chat as you go about your day. Makes it all the more pleasant.

I can't stand the smell of Lush and will cross the road to avoid walking past. I don't use their products either as I have very sensitive skin with a couple of small patches of exema. Horrible stuff. I was never keen on Body Shop either and that's gone to the wall.
Agreed. All smells so fake and chemically. I used to like Crabtree & Evelyn, which was nearby but seems to have disappeared now.
Not much point asking the current owner either. When I was buying my current house, I noticed some drill holes in the wall under the window - so I asked the solicitor to ask whether it had been cavity wall insulated. The response from the vendor / vendor's solicitor was 'that's for the buyer to find out'. I must admit I was stumped as to how better to find out!
