[Albion] RDZ pre-Liverpool press conference

There's a difference between being open about issues affecting the upcoming match (e.g. squad, injuries etc.), and discussing his own future. He doesn't have to talk about that at all. In a pre-match press conference it'd be fine to respond "I don't have anything to say about that today", and ask to focus on the match and the immediate issues.Hahaha! Although I bet you'd love to!
But anyway, that's a fairly extreme analogy. It would be more akin for you to go on project and admit "things are behind schedule and here's how we get things on track" , instead of smoke mirrors, saying it's all on track but I'll speak to management, and ending up like an HS2 situation where huge bills and nothing delivered and being scrapped.
Saying his truth is part of the De Zerbi package and I for one don't want to change it. Greater honesty and transparency is a good thing in my view, as long as he's not being disrespectful, which he's not. As long as we can all be rational and not too sensitive about things (which is hard when it comes to a club we love).
Obviously that won't stop people asking the question, but it's not as though what he's actually said is going to make everybody go "oh that's cleared that up, there's definitely no need to ask that question again next week".
Has he done his post match presser yet? My outrage requirements have been severely under-met so far today

Especially as anyone who hasn't covered the club before seems to think they are the first person ever to ask the question. Most regulars at the Lancing pre-match pressers can't be bothered as it's almost always the same answer or some variation.

Yesterday numerous people where saying they welcomed his honest, open and talkative approach to the press. I’m not totally convinced by his honesty but he was certainly open and talkative yet again post-match. And all he has done with this further uttering is add more noise, distraction and speculation to an already difficult end to the season. But he hasn’t just said the same as the past few months. He has added that talks are now off until the end of the season. This is new, to me at least

This Europe qualification thingy will never be a future reality for a club our size and with all the top 9 paying massive wages etc. This is the nature of the beast and we have more chance of veering towards the other end of the table, doesn't mean we are doing badly at all. If rdz doesn't fancy it then I'm happy to say bye now and move onto the next chapter.

This is where I am. It's one thing to have an ambition of CL qualification and another thing entirely to have a plan to make it happen. There are 9 other clubs that have greater resources than us. In a professional team sport that is always going to tell in the end.
So without some means of increasing income we can only have a realistic chance of top 10, which was always Tony's stated goal. It's obviously a good thing that Roberto has a higher ambition but it looks unlikely to be met with us.
I know we currently sit in the top 10 but the relegation tracker is a more honest reflection of our position.

These driven managers start to believe there own hype when there head gets turned there's only one outcome. They are not then fully focused on the job at hand no matter how much he says he is.
I know what you mean.....
But RDZ is a deliberate man. Look how he exited he last club. Stayed put till all the players were safe.
I don't think he is eyeing up other clubs as such. If I think about it, which club would it be, even? As a 'step up' to trophies? Bayern Munich? Barcelona? I doubt either would consider him. Liverpool? Ditto.
He needs to win something. It isn't out of the realms of possibility we could win a cup. If he's properly ambitious he'd want a top job.
Otherwise it really does have West Ham and Everton written all over it. The lofty hights of Sunderland may have been enough for Poyet. But RDZ is a different beast. I think. Which I why I think he will stay.
If not, we will simply upgrade and move on. Exciting times.

I don’t really buy that. If our form drops off a cliff he becomes a lot less attractive to other teams.
You’re right about there being nine or more clubs with bigger wallets though so that’s always going to be the Brighton conundrum. If the coach does well he’ll get better offers and if he doesn’t, we risk relegation.
It’s the same all the way down football though. We took Potter off Swansea and have landed bargain players from South America and the Nordics.
Robert’s ambition, Tony’s plan. They’ll chat about how to best align the two or come to a realistic compromise. No drama.
Top 10 is remarkable given competing in Europe and our ridiculous injury list this season with our budget/resources.

I also think he is entirely focused this season. He played a different style yesterday and didn’t go man for man when out of possession and he had a plan for attacking Liverpool down their right hand side. We caused them some real problems in the first half.
He may well go at the end of the season but what he is saying is that he’d like to see the club’s plan and then make a decision. That seems entirely reasonable to me, albeit there is the fact that he is contracted for another two seasons so another club would need to meet our release clause.
Part of that plan, I would expect, is that we don’t sell any of our key players and add a defensive midfielder and right sided attacker.
If we did that and then he went I’d be a bit miffed.
We will make sales at the end of this season. Deniz will likely go as will the lad at Rangers ( name escapes me) plus a few others. Alzate, Leonard. I think we’ll probably make sales of about £20m and I’d like to think that we’ll bring in Reiss Nelson from Arsenal ( to help them fund Gibbs-White from Forest) and a proper defensive midfielder, as I don’t think that is Baleba’s position. Possibly also another defender, and sell Webster. Lallana will retire and we may let Milner go, especially if Leeds are promoted and they want him.
If we could keep our key players and add Nelson and a midfielder then I think we’d have a chance of keeping Roberto.
