I have always felt that the symbolism of England should be a tribute to the hard working men and women who made England what it is not some dumb old Christian. My grandad didnt go to war because of some medieval dragon slayer
I agree about the St George's Cross. I'd hoped we would have a more appropriate flag than that.

Do further research and you can see why it has really been done. Lol
Go on fill us all in.

I'm genuinely perplexed as to what the new colours are actually supposed to mean. Seems like a quirky design choice to appeal to Gen Z and their obsession with wearing expensive football shirts as fashion (not critical, slightly jealous).

I think that was under change as well!
To be fair, back to the original topic, I don't personally care about what is on the shirt, I rarely watch England play ( maybe the traditional semi or quarter exit)... I have never purchased any replica shirt, not even an Albion one, in all the years since my first match in 1974 aged 11....

.... I do feel a modicum of mild reverence for our national symbols, probably driven by a family full of current and past service personnel.... that's all really.

At least the playful re-imagining of the flag will give us something else to talk about whilst England bore everyone senseless in a series of 1-0s and 0-0s to qualify from their group, smash some bunch of noddy farmers 8-0 in the R16 then get knocked out in the quarters by Spain.

Can someone tell me what I am supposed to be upset about? Is it a flag? Is it a decoration on the collar of the shirt in different colours?

Did anyone moan about this in 2012?

'The US firm said the colours were inspired by the training kit worn by England's 1966 World Cup winners'

Use those colours elsewhere then. You don't mess up a nation's flag on their shirt.

I have no objection to changing it up, in principal. I don’t think it’s “woke” or any of the divisive bullshit. And it is a tiny part of the shirt.

However, the George Cross is red on a white background and it evokes more than the sum of its parts.

Seems silly and unnecessarily provocative to change it to blue and purple.

Never will I be a gammon, but I can get annoyed at changing our flag’s colours. V poor.

If they REALLY changed it in line with 1966 then I HOLD MY HANDS UP.
It isn't a flag. It's a thing on a shirt. Like a poppy (remember that debacle?). It has only been on the shirt for 15 years or so and this is not the first 'interpretation' cross. We have had wavy crosses, and we have had Chevrolet badge shaped ones (I have one like that. Lovely, it is).

Don't be triggered by oaves like Anderson and Farrage. You're better than that
