There you go folks. So the reason football is such a great game is because Southgate picks Maguire, despite him not being good enough.

I see those things sometimes at United, yes, although far less so of late and rarely if at all for England. He's not a bad defender, at times, he's been an excellent defender and for England he's been a consistent one.
Over the last few years, form-wise, he should 100% have been dropped (for his own good more than anything), but we have a youngish squad going into the Euros and he has experience going to the final which is a valuable commodity.
Whether we like it or not, he adds value to the England squad beyond just on the pitch. I have FAR more of a problem with Henderson being involved.
He should have been dropped long ago, and replaced with the likes of Dunk, who would have benefited from game time in an England shirt. With finals in a few months, it's a bit late for that now, so Maguire may need to be in the squad.

Well exactly. People bigging him up for 'playing better recently' are missing the facts that prior to that he wasn't playing at all & that his current (not utter shit) form would have him nowhere near the squad under another manager

No. Stones and Dunk should be starting, they're even expecting goalkeepers to be able to play football these days FFS 
To answer this question, I guess you need to consider how many centre-backs are in the squad (let's assume that Southgate has picked the right number in terms of overall squad balance) and if Maguire currently lies within that top number.

The only semi-obvious name missing is Tomori, isn't it? Max Kilman has been linked with a call-up before, but with both Branthwaite and Konsa being new and inexperienced faces at this level, I guess experience wins for Maguire right now.

Good to get that list up, and I agree that Tomori is an obvious omission.
But in all honesty, I'd put Eric Dier ahead. I'd even be happy to see someone like Callum Doyle at Leicester included. He's young and likely to be thereabouts in the future.
Maguire just sends the wrong message out to a team that should be aspiring to be the best.

It's really good to see this list.
It also highlights how much of a missed opportunity it is not being able to select Ben White in that squad. You could play him across three positions, and that versatility would be perfect for tournament football. Although, I wonder how he'd play at CB or DM these days.
Based on the NSC poll sample size, Maguire is right about millions of people wanting him in the squad!
It's quite scary we're favourites with Maguire and Henderson any near that squad.
When opponents pump balls ‘into the mixer’, he does have an innate instinct to be in the right place to head 90% of them away.
At international level, I’m not sure that’s a prevalent phase of play?
To me, these days, that’s all he offers. He was a far better player 5 years ago.
