I really hope Southgate and Co. go after this tournament. He deserves credit, but we need to move on from the predictable selection and tactics.
All the negative comments of Ben White stem from his appearance/love of a fake tan and misinterpreted quotes about him not liking football. From the brief period of watching him play, he seemed like a model professional. Anyone connected to Arsenal says the same about his work rate, etc.
Imagine if this was Kyle Walker:
"Kyle, you're clearly not sufficiently interested in football"
"Sorry Steve, I've not had the time. I train, go back to my family for dinner, spend a bit of time with the kids.. service the missus if she is up for it, then I've got to do the same all over again with family number 2"

Sounds like Steve Holland is quite the motivator.
If this is true then he is firstly a knob for saying it and secondly a knob for not being able to put it right.
I would have thought it wasn't something to get in the way of an England career though.
Quite. And the way he has handled this particular issue has shown a lot of professionalism and maturity….the exact opposite of Holland in fact. Southgate has been naive in the extreme with his handling which, in effect, has been shown to be a cover up.

Unless of course the assistant coach is advising the manager to not play you.
I really struggle with a leadership team apportioning all the ‘blame’ on an individual (which they have indirectly done), whilst accepting zero accountability, despite what’s being reported suggesting that is far from the truth.
Respect goes both ways. At least Ben has kept his counsel as opposed to speculating others reasons for his absence as a means of deflection….
That new rumour is the same as the original but more detail. The pub version bit different saying Saka got dog's abuse when we didnt win against America and Holland thing just the trigger to go home. But maybe thats the Arse friendly version. If version above is true Holland should go we cant have coaches judging players on tabloid talk. If you watch him in games he is totally fearless and no question should of been one of the first on the England team sheet for a long time imho

What a bunch of fannies. Holland needs to stick to putting cones out, Southgate needs to do some actual management and White needs to learn to work with people he thinks are dickheads. We all have to.

I mostly agree with you. Regarding the last point, some can't. I can't so I don't. I have to keep several levels of separation between myself and workplace dickheads. Luckily in my job it is possible.
Luckily in White's case it is also possible. Which is what we are seeing, perhaps.

If my boss was a dickhead and told me to spend six weeks including part of my vacation with him in a German hotel this summer I would have thought twice about it
We don’t know it’s based on tabloid talk though. We don’t know what interaction there had been between White and the others before this happened and maybe he gave them reason to think he wasn’t interested enough.
This does sound a bit more like an argument that’s at the middle of an issue, rather than the start. Not that I think calling out players publicly is right and I am glad Coady stuck up for him.

So would I but White had an opportunity to be part of a squad that has a favourites chance of winning something for once. If he'd either forced or made his way into the team via injuries or whatever he could have gone down as a legend. A genuine one, not the overused version we've got used to today. White obviously thinks differently but I'd put the bigger picture before some spat with a lad that puts the cones out.

Criticism is one thing - being called out publicly by a professional coach in front of all of your colleagues is quite another.
White was called up to the England squad by Holland's boss and a degree of respect should have been shown.
This'll get spun in the "oh it's all bantz innit, just bantz, White should man up, bantz bantz bantz" mode, no doubt.
Yes I saw SYFY episode where we won and Southgate put Maguire on the bench to play Ben but the episode about flat earth had better evidence and still looks round to me

There's a difference between criticism and humiliation. Coaches are there to coach not browbeat professionals.
Ben White has had no problem with Michael Flynn, Darren Ferguson, Chris Hughton, Bielsa, Graham Potter nor Arteta, but some jumped up coach who has never managed above Crewe thinks he can humiliate him in a classroom.
C’mon, I don’t like it but professional players get called out in front of the team all the time. I can’t remember who said it but someone said RDZ does it here. If you watch stuff like the Amazon documentary, Arteta is always shouting at them in the changing rooms.
It’s a different world from normal jobs. Someone mentioned not going away for months in a hotel with their boss, but going away with your boss and the team is expected. It wouldn’t be normal in any other job but it’s the absolute norm in football.
RDZ doesn't mess about; he likes to double-down and dig out players on TV interviews in the tunnel straight after the game.
