Both. Cheap mass produced white sliced for a hungover bacon sarnie

Nice fresh bread from the chap in Horsham market on a Saturday.
That is the Hungry Guest bakery from Petworth. I prefer the bread from Gwyns on Bishopric - cheaper and better than the Gails which has now opened in Carfax.

Another vote for both. Hard to resist picking up a seeded sourdough from Flour Pot if we’re out of bread or running low and I’m walking the dog past. But bacon sarnies have to be white death bread and brown sauce. Should be the law.

The supermarkets in store bakeries vary between very good and downright awful my personal fav Based on cost and taste is Lidl and worst by miles is Asda

I don't buy sliced bread but I wouldn't turn it down if you offered me a bacon sandwich.

A decent baguette-style loaf each day for between 70c and 1.20c does for me (occasionally a supermarket one for a little less). On occasion I'll splash out 4€ on a nice loaf at the weekend.

Good bread is a bit more affordable over here, thankfully.

If we want bakers to paid a living wage and if we want the bakery to use quality ingredients then you have to pay for it. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.
There is an element of truth here.

Are modern bread markers energy efficient now. Know when we had one years ago it took over 3hrs to make and bake a loaf. So do they save you money if you need to make a loaf every other day

A lot of studies show UPFs are bad for you. It doesn't take a genius to see the correlation between their rise and the increase in obesity.
the "issue" of cheap white bread has been around over a hundred years since roll milling made white flour cheap, well before obesity was a problem. UPF is a new schtick to tell us how we're living wrong and not meeting the pretentious-middle class standards.
