Swindon, but used to be Manila
What were your favourites?

From the pack of Peter Stuyvesant bought from a street vending machine on a school trip to Germany age 13 . . . .
American import Lucky Strikes (with no filter)
The slightly more civilised (but still import grade) Camels with filter
To the somewhat more challenging filter-free French (Algerian, I recon) Disc Bleu....

Mmmmmm.....in these desiccated and smoke free days....one only wonders at the horror we pursued in the persuit of that . . . sensation.
Remembering you Dad he would have ripped your head off if he caught u puffing.

Fed up with trains. Sick of the rain.
I always preferred American cigarettes so Chesterfields, Camel and Lucky Strike.

Packed up smoking cold turkey on the back of a health scare after a visit to the dentist about twenty years ago. Cigarettes now seem to have quite a chemical smell about them. I don't miss them. Sometimes think it would be nice to enjoy a good cigar but don't want to risk going down the smoking road again.

Another ciggy story for you. During the late 1970s I was working for an international drinks company based in London. At the time JPS were heavily involved in sponsoring motor racing - you may remember F1 cars in black with JPS gold trim. The marketing side of JPS decided to carry out a publicity stunt which was to be filmed to promote brand awareness. This stunt involved 50 Minis, decked out in JPS colours of black and gold, which were to be driven in convoy around Hyde Park Corner. The drivers were promotion girls dressed in black leather to compliment the whole glamour theme.

All good so far. The girls got in their respective Minis and off they went, one behind the other in close order. Everything hunky dory until . . . . . the girl driving the first Mini braked suddenly, the girl driving behind didn’t react quickly enough and shunted the first Mini, the next Mini then shunted the second and so on. A fabulous concertina of shunts involving all 50 Minis. Marvellous!

From what I heard various people involved in this cataclysmic stunt got fired and JPS were left with egg and fag ash on their faces. :lolol:

P.S. Hyde Park Corner in those days did not have traffic lights so you could drive round and round to your heart’s content. Unless of course you encountered a smashed up black Mini en route.

He was pretty relaxed about it, even when I was 15. Surprisingly, perhaps. But he smoked Old Holborn in the house....

Never smoked, not once, ever. Which is strange. I'm an F1 fan and all those cars wizzing around with Marlboro, Rothmans etc. My first pet was a Guinea Pig, black and white I called him JPS. I've worked in clubs most of my life, 13 in Spain, where smoking was the norm.
As a youngster I worked in an Off Liceince in Burgess Hill (Roberts, Church St) selling cheap cigs. End of the day we'd stock up thousands of packets.
In the 80's we sold cigarettes in our family shop and always remember the BAT rep lighting up just before he came in. Mind you, we got some really good gifts out of him.
And now, at 68 years, I'm overweight, high blood pressure and gout. But still alive.
Of my best and closest friends Clem, died young. Damien, died young. Dave, died young. All of cancer.
My wife smokes and laughs at the adds now on TV that say she has a 50% chance of dieing young.
Why do smokers just not understand it will kill them?

I only ever smoked as a teenager because everyone else did. First time was one of my mum's No.6 that I had pinched. Later on myself and all of my friends were smoking 555's.
I never tried my gran's Capstan extra strength but I remember all of the ceilings being brown in her flat and the extremely strong smell of tobacco, yuk!

Viewed as a young nipper, I remember the dirty orange ceilings in my paternal grandparents home. They were heavy smokers.

Loved Ducados, but then Marlboro Red were my usual brand. At least no-one else would take them!

That's because they are rough as f, one was ok but you can feel your throat getting stripped!

Do you remember there used to be a brand called Black Death, they did them in the 7/11 in Boundary/Station Road.

My Mum was on Marlboro reds when she had me.

Ahh the 70's, if we weren't messed up enough with asbestos, lead paint or TV presenters, we were on nicotine before we were born :ROFLMAO:

Appreciate it is down to luck but David Hockneys story always amuses me. He is 86 Every time I have seen him interviewed he is chain smoking. When questioned about this he said his last 3 doctors had suggested he stopped and they are now all dead.

Never got on with American cigarettes with an overdose of saltpetre in them.

Cigarette of choice was Piccadilly and if I had a shit cold and was coughing my guts up I’d switch to Consulate, “cool as a mountain stream”
I had a pack of picadily, out of curiosity, around 1994 . . . smoked a few , , , we had a gig that evening, and I couldn't sing ay high notes. . . .thrashed my throat

Silk slut were my tailors, but mostly roll ups . . . . Three castles, old holbourn, Drum light.

smoked KENT super lights in Romania, circa 99 . . .50p a pack . . . Got home early 2000 and gave up.

I will very occaisionally have a smoke, but not very often, I was lucky, always more of a social smoker, and down the pub. . . .so found it easy to give up.

Super kings for a while as a teenager. The extra length provided the best value for my dinner money. Started on Sovereigns though, they were around £1-50 for ten back then.
I’ve always gone through periods of smoking followed by not smoking and been able to just stop when I wanted to. The three years I’m on to now without smoking is probably my longest ever, and have to say this time I can’t see myself starting again.
I did enjoy a large cigar as part of the celebrations after that thoroughly enjoyable 4-1 home win last month however!

Smoker. Be honest

:lolol:
You can't call me a smoker for one drag of a cigarette 1-2 times a year!!
I did vape at the Amex the other day, the people behind me probably thought I was stopping myself passing out, head just above my knees taking a sneaky puff then breathing out so slowly with my head still down to make sure no cloud came up, that I'm surprised no one called 1st aiders over! Sorry everyone! 😁
Jnr's look of 'If you get banned, I'll never speak to you again' was discouraging but encouraging at the same time! :lolol:
Edit... him not speaking to me was encouraging part. ;)
