Brighton factually.....
Sorry not my generation for Brighton, passed me by as a Liverpool player if I’m honest apart from finals on tv and based on his tv punditry, meh not really a fan.

He was majestic. My first hero was Spider Mellor, followed by Lawrenson. They both seemed to just glide out effortlessly with the ball. While Mellor was a winger, he was a ball winner too and he and Lawro had this ability to smoothly pick the pockets of attacking players and almost move away with the ball unnoticed.

While others were focused on the likes of Ward for heroes, I always loved the defenders and midfielders.

Lawro also used to live in a house near me in Shoreham. I’d often see him walking his dog alone. He looked a grumpy bugger then as well 😂

I remember the TV interviewing him at the Goldstone on the pitch and there were some brickies doing some working the South East Corner of the ground and they were shouting "Don't go Mark "
Must have been the last bit of maintenance work done on it until Archer flattened it.

Rolls Royce of a player - could play midfield too (and did occasionally for us). Any 'All time best Albion team' and he'd be the first name on the team sheet, no question.
Agree with the sentiment although "first name on the team sheet, no question" is a massive call based on what we've seen over the last 2 seasons, and not one I'd be quite so sure about!

The only question would be, 'Who's next on the team sheet?" Lawrenson was sold for a Caicedo-level fee to the best club in Europe and instantly became an essential core of the team, winning multiple league championships and European cups.
Just a shame he declared for Ireland - England could have used a good Lancashire lad at that time!

Greatest player we've ever had. Nobody else close. ...
Up until a few years ago I'd have whole-heartedly agreed with both of you, but I do feel we've had some over the last few seasons who could run him pretty close!

But yeah, he'd still be an all-time top Albion XI unquestionably. Defence or midfield. Remember that goal he scored against Wolves in the FA Cup?

I've watched the full video. He starts off blasting the BBC about him not being the right colour and getting sacked.
Very interesting about the 10 year contracts but guaranteeing he would be sold for a large fee. Nothing changes at Brighton. I wonder how many players were on 10 years?
