Sergei Gotsmanov was the Vicente of the 80s Goldstone era

We just couldn't really believe we had managed to sign the guy - and he didn't let us down.
I agree, so if sadly the rumours are true and he IS ill - what can we do for him? I know we had a whip-round for Sully, so is it feasible/desirable to do one for him?

On top of the world
A wonderful player, sad to hear that he's unwell.

I seem to remember that in that game away at Swindon he chased down a lost cause ball (and possibly put in a cross that resulted in an Albion goal?).

That commitment stuck in my mind and I still use it as a benchmark as to whether a player is giving their all, or not.

Yep a truly great player who provided some great entertainment in a dreary time. Remember the goal mentioned above very well as I was in the South Stand with my dad. Great moment, oozed class and confidence.

Terrible quality footage, but here it is (from 'Saint and Greavsie', no less)

Friday night match. Seem to remember going to the National the next day. Might have been the day before the Poll Tax Riots.

Very sad news. I met Sergei and his family during his stint with us and laughed with him about THAT goal celebration, though he could not speak English nor I Russian. Played football with one of his kids, and I think Sergei must have learnt a few tricks from me….. :unsure:I was gutted when he left us for Southampton.

Just hope and pray that things go as well for him as they possibly can.

Fond memories of, he brought so much excitement to our club it’s hard to convey now looking back. Sending my very best wishes to a very special player. A legendary figure to a generation of Albion fans.
