As I'm from Hastings, for me this is really sad to see.
It's also becoming known as the sick capital of the UK.
I consider myself quite lucky in many ways and it is painful to watch this.

Always got treated well by and loved the people of Hastings and so sad to see. The Pier, The White Rock and Pissaros bring back such wonderful memories

As did I. We had a beach hut (from the early 70s), when they were affordable. Got buried in shingle during the great storm and that was it.

My grandparents used to live in Fairlight, so spent a lot of time walking between the two via the Firehills, great place for bbq's.

The hastings scene had some great musos over the years, Liane, Roger and my old mate Liam who's appeared on a song or two

I recall ours was a few grand. Yes a lot of money back then but between my old man and my uncle they managed to get it together. Nothing like they are today.Beach huts now £££

It put me off the seaside for years and was only when I became an adult I grew to appreciate it again....

Yeh we took the beaches for granted, but now when we travel down, we always find time to meander whatever the weather.

Had wondered whether any new build stock had been protected for local residents under 106 agreements, but obviously would need to be affordable and appreciate it doesn’t help the rental sector

Sums up why we need more regulation of the housing market.
Yes, echoing others with a Hastings background like me. Very depressing to watch and sad for those shown. But probably mirrors the situation the length and breadth of the UK. And in Hastings that's (largely) without the student effect that also distorts housing availability in other places. I don't really know enough about it tbh but I do wonder about the way that housing associations are run and regulated. I think there's a bit of a market focus to drive up the salaries and bonuses of the exec teams under a cloak of doing good......
One big issue and this article will disappear quickly mainly due to location. The agenda especially the BBC is always the North. Whether it's the main road to Hastings the A21, the crap rail service to the poor housing stock it goes unnoticed by most of the media. I get pissed off listening night after night on the news, on Newsnight etc only ever talking about Newcastle, Liverpool blah blah yet they've had money thrown at them for decades. The A21 up north would be a considered a farm track.
You're right regarding the students they shut the f***ing place down. Hastings really is treated like a leper

Your not wrong there.
The Romans should've been given the contract.
They're spending £42 m improving the A21 a shocking amount of money that is NOT improving one thing. Replacing of signs, laying a few cats eyes it's frankly bewildering where this money is being spent, certainly not on the road itself. 8 miles of dual carriageway in the whole of East Sussex, that is it.

Should've extended all the way in.
They took long enough to build the bypass between Bexhill and Hastings, which has improved things in that respect.
