I have just listened again to Lee Anderson's remarks at the press conference when he announced his defection to Reform UK. Quite frankly it is very very difficult to disagree with anything he said.
Quite frankly for most of us it is not (but of course it depends on your point of view).
He wants his country back. So do we all.
‘Back’ from what exactly? ’Nasty Muslims’, ‘Pro-Palestinian’ protestors and other ‘foreigners’ who are ‘tearing our democracy apart’ and back from all the ‘millions‘ of ‘illegal’ migrants ‘invading our shores in frightening numbers’ who ‘should fcuk off back to France’?
This is not the same country we enjoyed growing up in a few decades back.
No it is better, more diverse, generally more tolerant with less discrimination and has a multi-cultural population that adds to the rich tapestry of life in Britain both creatively, spiritually and ethnically.
He wants to be able to speak his mind. Everyone should be able to speak his/her mind. If you don't agree then don't listen.

‘Free speech’ does not include the right to incite hatred, espouse racist views or religious intolerance or dog whistle to extremist ideologues sadly living under the stones in every society and more recently flourishing very well amongst the Tory Party.
He is concerned about the London Mayor. So should we all be wherever we live. The man does everything he can to antagonize Londoners and everyone who visits our capital city.
’Concerns’ that he is a Muslim?
He worries about the culture war and people trying to erase our history. So am I and millions of others.
Ah - the hard, far right POV and political thinking sweeping through Europe that Muslims and other people of colour are taking over ‘white man’s’ way of life and destroying his’ culture. The Great Replacement Theory.

Sound to me as though the guy speaks a lot of common sense. Extreme? No.
‘Extreme’ Yes.

And really objectionable views that you are supporting there 😡

He is concerned about immigration both legal and illegal. So should we all be.

He is concerned about the massive rise in shoplifting which the police seem to ignore. Tough to argue with that.

He is concerned about people living here who hate our way of life. Who is going to argue with that?

He worries about the culture war and people trying to erase our history. So am I and millions of others.

What does that mean exactly and when do you want to go back to?

In the England I grew up in there was, as far as I can recall, little or no hatred. OK, maybe the Mods and the Rockers didn't get on so well! So where exactly has all the hatred that we now see and hear about every day originated from?

When did you grow up?

The 40s when we still had rationing?

The 50s or 60s when homosexuality was illegal, people could put signs like “no blacks, no Irish” in windows and there were race riots?

I doubt it was the 70s as you don’t strike me as a Gen X type, but you’ve already dragged the country back to 1973 with Brexit. Nice decade the 70s. Apart from Skins and the NF at football and monkey noises and bananas aimed at black players.

One advantage of getting our country back would, I suppose, be no internet so at least glassy eyed old lunatics couldn’t post complete bollocks on a Saturday afternoon.

Since it was my post you were quoting, I’ll answer you further and not by attacking you or making ad hominem remarks - that’s too easy and only serves to play to the gallery for points imo - However, that hatred, I would suggest has not sprung up out of nowhere:

Maybe you just weren’t exposed to it? Maybe when you were growing up - presumably in the 50-60s since you mention Mods & Rockers - Maybe you weren’t living in an area that had large numbers of immigrant populations - racism was rife in the 1950s - the Windrush Generation were met with pervasive racism and discrimination from the moment they arrived (having been invited to help fill the shortfall in our post-war labour market in the way Eastern Europeans (agriculture ) and non-Europeans (NHS) were invited decades later.

As I said in my post above and to which you didn’t answer, what do you mean by you want the Country ‘back’, back from what exactly?

I would suggest that Brexit gave a carte blanche for some of that lingering racist sentiment to find new expression - sentiments that had not really gone away in far right politics just temporarily silenced with anti-discrimination legislation.

A classic case of I didn’t see it, so it didn’t happen. False nostalgia. I, too, grew up in the 50s and 60s.
Here’s the first court case after the Race Discrimination Act was passed in 1968.

Me too - grew up in South London in the ‘60s, before moving to Brighton in the 70’s, remember being bullied at school for being (and ‘looking’ ) Jewish - Dad used to take me to Stamford Bridge in the 60s as a young kid but was old enough to know about the Chelsea Headhunters. Then later in the 70’s, our corner shops daubed with graffitti ‘Pak*** go home’ and other offensive wording, language of racial stereotyping and xenophobic attitudes absolutely common parlance. The horrendous rise of the NF; Toxteth riots in the 80s - none more racist than groups like Combat 18 infiltrating the football terraces of Millwall, WHU and Chelsea in the 90s - did any of it ever go away or was it just silenced?

Silly man.

Have you seen the polls in London ? (*)

Us "antagonised" Londoners (I refrain from using the Americanised spelling, but each to his own) will grant him a record majority in the face of the worst Conservative candidate whose faced an election ever and a Government change in voting system which no-one asked for.

(*) That not the "Poles in London", I wouldn't want to ruin your weekend.

I also grew up in the 50s and 60s and suggest some people look back with rose tinted glasses like thinking it never rained in the Summer holidays! Growing up in Seaford I never saw any racism because there were no black people around. We had plenty of hatred though mainly for people from other council estates and, of course, Newhaven. I was totally unaware of the Windrush generation or the colour bar on Bristol transport systems, Union led I understand now. I suggest that goldstone either has a selective memory or is on a wind-up, imo.

Erm.
Is it people like Lee Anderson?
And also other like minded scary individuals who don’t really ever think deeper than the Daily Mail front page
Like you I think.

When you listen to the words and the slogans - please please try and see why people like him are saying what they are saying.
Try and look beneath the mask

Sound to me as though the guy speaks a lot of common sense. Extreme? No.

I do wonder why you would possibly make such a stupid comment ?

Some of the principal reasons that people have to go to foodbanks:
- They have more kids than they can afford to feed
- Women have babies with unsuitable men, then split up, then (guess what?) fall on hard times. They need to be a lot more certain about their husbands before they start having kids.
- They spend their food money on feeding their dogs. All the poorest families seem to have mutts.
- They have the latest smartphones, tablets, an enormous TV in their living room, Sky ... and then wonder why there's no money left to feed the family.
- They throw their money away on gambling.

So the rules said that no cheese was allowed in offices and under no circumstances could anyone bring in a bottle of wine? Must have missed that.

I would certainly have voted Conservative, however I absolutely refuse to vote for a party that stole two years of my life because of these ridiculous lockdowns and other restrictions. I hope Nigel Farage re-enters politics and I would vote for whichever party he's involved in.

But given your posting history, maybe not :dunce:

Let's be honest, if brains were dynamite, you'd struggle to blow your nose :lolol::lolol::lolol:

Are you not answering?

Already had you down as ancient and mental. Can now add 'stupid', 'troll' and 'scared' to the list.
