Absolutely but the sub question is HOW one exercises that right. Has 21st century society lost the ability to debate without being overly 'offended' or by being overly 'aggressive' (whether by use of hateful words or hateful actions)?
Historically the political debate has been much more overly aggressive. Yet even now I see more overly aggressive 'discussion' than overly 'offended' responses. I don't recognise the culture war between broflakes and snowflakes.

Consider this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/15/britains-most-racist-election-smethwick-50-years-on

Michael Gove wants to use parliamentary privilege to name groups under his new definition of extremism, despite government lawyers warning him about the legal implications of doing so.
There will be no appeal if you are labelled an extremist group.

This thread is very thought provoking.

I wonder if people who call for MP’s to be shot will be included in this definition of extremism?

I suspect if you’ve profiteered from so many NHS IT contracts that you can afford to donate £10m to the Tory party, you might not make the list?

"Michael Gove has said remarks made by the Conservative party’s largest donor were “horrific” but were unlikely to be referred to the government’s new extremism taskforce.

The communities secretary said Frank Hester’s comments about the veteran MP Diane Abbott were “racist”, but that he “wouldn’t want to conflate” an individual set of remarks with an extremist ideology."

£15m apparently. Seemingly he donated a further £5m in the last 6 months that is yet to be recorded.

I’m confused:

Tories - “We are opposed to Cancel Culture and insist that free-speech is sacrosanct. Instead of being easily offended snowflakes, people need to become more tolerant and resilient.”

Tories - “We consider many views that we disagree with, and those who hold such views, to be extremist or undemocratic, and we will therefore ban them.” 😳
'Cancel culture' is such a load of old shite. No-one gets ACTUALLY 'cancelled'. If someone or something does something wrong they get rightly punished, but not actually 'cancelled' by the definition of that phenomenon.

So the conclusion we draw is that you can be racist (or Islamaphobic or anti-semitic or homophobic) but as long as you say "sorry" and give the Tories £10m, everything is forgiven and forgotten.

Got it!

Let sunak wait until December for the election yes it will be 8 more months of hell for us . But with every scandal every pig in the trof every right wing nut job they will lose even more mps at the election . I am serious in saying this could be like the Canadian Tory party that got wiped out . The way this fuckers are going 100 seats would be a great result for them . People compare this to 97 when Blair came in but this feels different I think 97 will look like a walk in the park for the tories and it will be the election that changed British politics for ever

Or as long as you say it as an individual, rather than as part of a group. Even if all your mates are saying exactly the same thing.
