[Albion] Was the Referee’s performance v Roma the best we have seen at The Amex?

Possibly the best for us. Ruling out a perfectly good goal in the first half for them. He did seemed to set his stall against their dark arts but there was only so far he could go.

General decision making seemed good both ways. Lamptey's card was a bit harsh mind.

The Arsenal v Porto ref in the ECL was a different gravy this week. Came in a Tardis from the 70s.

I am still baffled as to why their goal was disallowed. Good for the game it was, but never a foul

No. He disallowed a perfectly good goal

Playing in a dangerous manner

Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury.
A scissors or bicycle kick is permissible provided that it is not dangerous to an opponent.

Van Hecke was right behind the player attempting to head the ball clear as the Roma player kicked it (and he was holding his head afterward, maybe exaggerating for effect). The ref was right in law to disallow it.

I thought he was pretty good so it’s interesting to see a thread on just that subject. He didn’t let them bully him which was a real risk after about 15 minutes of them trying it on

Has anyone ever seen a keeper get sent off after getting two yellows for time wasting ?
It never happens - in the Crawley v Notts County game on Tuesday the keeper got booked as early as the 15th/20th minute but it didn't stop timewasting antics. Teams know refs will never want to be the first in this country

Ref had his work cut out with their constant low level cheating tactics of going to ground at the drop of a hat. Thought he handled it fairly well

Thought he was good, but fell for a lot of the diving and gamesmanship, although not as much as a Premier League ref would have done. It's ridiculous how much better the referees are in the second rate European competition than they are in 'the best league in the world'.

Didn't notice the ref, so I suppose going by the old adage, pretty good

Lamptey always get a harsh, unfair, yellow. I just don't get it.

He was kicked in the head. No exaggeration.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
He was pretty good but didn't enforce the 10 yard rule for our free kicks which meant we couldn't take them quickly. Strangely, later on, he made our players move back when Roma had a free kick. It was almost as though he had just remembered.
The goal was rightly disallowed for a high boot, even though JPVH put his head in low to deflect it, it was still dangerous.

No complaints- early on in fist half he stood there with his arms up and pointing at his watch, adding on time whilst he waited for Roma.

Their goal should’ve stood though

I thought he was a homer at the time for disallowing a brilliant Roma goal but on replay you can see Van Hecke would have been put off from heading the ball by a boot in his face, totally fair call by the ref tho we'd be moaning wrongly if we'd have scored it

I thought he was excellent throughout. Dealt with time-wasting very early on - I can't remember ever seeing a premier league ref booking the goalkeeper in the first half?
Me too. I think this thread is spot on. Can’t believe the number people moaning about instead!

Very easy to book a goalkeeper for timewasting in the first half if you have zero intention of booking him again.

Overall I thought he was pretty good - but booking RDZ when they had half a dozen people in the ear of the 4th official in the technical area was a joke.

Thought he generally had a good game with one major mistake.

Their disallowed goal absolutely should’ve stood. I realise there was contact on Van Hecke’s head from his boot, but context is important. There was no force, he was favourite for the ball, and would reasonably expect to go for the ball with his foot. We got very, very lucky there and I’d have been fuming if that was given against us.

Lamptey’s booking was also extremely soft.

Otherwise I thought he had a good game and I liked him. Kept the game going as much as he could given Roma’s antics, added appropriate additional time, clear signalling. Good referee generally.

Just far enough away from LDC
He was a curate's egg (good in parts).

Initially dealt with timewasting falling over well. Agreed with all the bookings. Then had a wobbly 20mins early second half.
