I would reckon it's a higher percentage than you think especially amongst women. It was almost impossible to get a part time job in the 70s and even early 80s except for dinner ladies or similar. Then part timer weren't allowed to join company pension schemes until the late 80s.
I was part of a union taking companies to court for sex discrimination which we eventually won in 2003. I, personally, was allowed five more years.

Just playing devil's advocate really and agree for reasons you say removal of OAP concession may disproportionately affect women. I hadn't thought of that.

It would be devastating for my Dad who would have to give up his ST.

With gate receipts forming such a small part of total income things like this are just wrong. Will only happen in PL because in lower leagues every supporter turning up is important and if they stop going unlikely to be replaced. Spurs and Arsenal dont give a toss if OAPs stop going. Just gives opportunity to sell ticket at higher price. Very sad. Not long ago Albion took ST taken away if missed so many games. Now with systems in place am sure they are pleased because with the demand m they can make further money buy reselling at matchday price and even may sell another membership. Have to realise that the majority of any increased income will go go to players and senior staff. Fans advisery people have to realise no suggestions will be considered if it cost the club money. Lets face it club would not even consider putting a cover over steps to P&R because of the cost which would not have been a great expense.

Some people under 30 are our wealthiest fans as well. The difference is that the vast majority of those over 65 are not working and therefore are reliant on their pension (of which they have contributed to all their working life). They probably have supported the Albion all their lives so a little payback by the club in reducing admission fees or season ticket costs is greatly appreciate, and, thoroughly deserved in my view.

Albion have had OAP tickets - quite rightly for years - and clearly no plans to remove them. THey have also competitive pricing for u10s, u18s and u21s. The comparison with Spurs / Arsenal is a stretch. Club clearly do consider ideas and changes to benefit fans that cost the club money. The investment in the fanzone is costing the club millions, post Covid - every TV in the concourse was upgraded and extra ones were installed, we still have comfy seats - cos Bloom decided to pay for it. - even though it was a considerable extra cost and there was no need to do so.

the feeling is that the club doesn’t rely on ST renewing, rather they can sell their tickets to tourists at far higher prices than they get by giving discounts.

This myth that pensioners are raking it in needs to be quashed. Most of us are considerably worse off than when we worked. I am fortunate in having a modest Company pension to augment the State one but a great many do not. I couldn’t afford a season ticket even with a concession, if I were fit enough to go.
If old people are well off, then they were wealthy before they got old .
So enjoy your health and full time employment while you have it ..... it will not last forever!

It looks like I can't go tonight. The missus asked me what day's I'm working in London and today wasn't one of them, so she opted to work in London herself. It was one of those conversations where I wasn't paying attention. Now I have to feed the child as it is too late to access contingency. If anything changes I'll txt. I'll probably txt anyway - when I have charged the phone. One of those weeks :confused:

I would give mine up if I were forcibly moved out of West upper into some ghetto area populated by people told they are waiting to die.

The concessionary charge is welcome but for me being told where to sit based on my age would be the straw that broke the geriatric's back. That's discriminatory. I have never heard of a club that unilaterally moved loyal supporters around in pursuit of tomfoolery.

Absolutely and I say this as a son who is currently assisting my widowed mum on her future finances / household budgeting when she retired from the NHS (part time) at some point this year.

Anyone in London over the age of 60 is almost certainly sitting on millions in assets and probably a large pension too. These clubs are smart enough to realise they do not need nor is there any logic in providing them a tasty discount.

On the fence about this - I'm not there yet but obviously would take an OAP discount if offered BUT many OAPs are better off than non-OAPs thanks to final salary pensions and having paid off their mortgage. My Dad had far more disposable income in retirement than I've ever had in 35+ years of work. That said, people who retire have paid their dues and so maybe deserve a financial break. Difficult one.

That's a very sweeping statement.

It's like saying:

Anyone in London over the age of 60 is almost certainly still paying council rent and living off a state pension too.
