Mums are vastly underrated.

Dads may give you the long term vision, but Mums keep the show on the road. Stuff like keeping in touch, turning up for work, eating properly etc. That kind of stuff.
I’m identifying as a Mum today ….for the card and present ..back to dad tomorrow

Ps good points made

Please note:

1) The target is £500. If that is met I will close it. If it is not then whatever we can do is fine. So...
2) There is no obligation at all. Donate if you want, don't if not. But please no binfestry. Let's keep this thread civil please
3) I've invited Andy to be a beneficiary. What that means is he'll add his bank details and get paid directly. I don't see a penny.
4) The banner on the page is SHIT. Photos are mandatory to set it up and it wouldn't resize my jpg properly. Deal with it.

We are specifically covering the following things:

Replacing Andy's expenses for stolen money, stolen AirPods, emergency passport.
A gift to the kind restaurant in Rome who assisted them.
A small donation to helpers and charities (@Bozza has suggested a knife crime charity which we will look into).

Just to be clear medical fees were covered by GHIC

Thank you to everyone on the other threads who suggested this. This was your idea. We're just helping to make it happen.

Cheers
Nice one.

That's not what the post originally said until it was edited 17 minutes ago

Seriously doubt many - if anybody - would have considered funding the guy for 'stolen goods and lost passport'. Can I get my tenner refunded? ???
I know what you mean but some cheer me up money after being stabbed is surely a nice gesture?

It is but that’s not the point. A young lad lost out financially as well as physically. NSC wanted to fix the first part which is, obviously, the easiest. That’s it.

We pledged that any additional money would go to the people who helped them and charity.

@Bozza will be handling the finances once Andy is squared up. I take it we all trust him?

Also if they got stuck into an Ambulance they don't always take them to a public hospital anyway.

GHIC/EHIC only works at public facilities so it's not always a case of someone being ignorant to the rules etc.

But yes, working in Travel Insurance and seeing the horror stories of people who end up not being covered, please always get it.

I'm Amazed by the amount of people that don't get travel insurance, I do think more needs to be made of getting it during the booking process of flights etc, its easy to forget to do.

I think it should be a legal requirement when travelling.

It would have been helpful had THPP had deleted his original posts, but not all of us can do that......

There is an additional fix for me.

Having listened to various media accounts from @jackalbion, it’s clear that The Other One was one of the first to recognise the ambush, alerted others to run and was in the clear himself but did a 180 and piled into a situation where he was hopelessly outnumbered in order to help his mates. That’s what parted me with my tenner. He is the friend we all want to have. Incredibly brave and courageous (and I do know that he wants absolutely no shout outs or publicity for what he did).

Thankfully people around here are not as petty and judgemental as yourself. I just tried to donate and couldn't because the target has been smashed and donations closed. Good job GB great gesture from us as a pick me up to Andy and to the various people in Rome who helped out.

I put my hand in my pocket when the original post said the gofundme was for hospital expenses, while adding a forceful bit about the importance of getting travel insurance. Then the post got changed to say the gofundme was to cover (among other things) the cost of the lad's stolen AirPods. So I asked if my donation could be diverted to the kind folks who helped the lads on the night. I wouldn't have deleted those posts even if I could

That leads to really shoddy travel insurance companies being set up because they offer "travel insurance" which is very cheap and people just buy it because it's the cheapest.

It was a legal requirement in Ghana for a while for travel and their travel insurance companies are awful because of it.

I am really curious about your value judgments. So medical expenses are ok, but other expenses not so. The guy got frigging mugged and stabbed whether it be hospital, legal or personal expenses doesn't really matter to me. What matters to me is when something like this happens people help out and show solidarity and concern.

Not your proudest moment.

I remember getting a slow puncture while on a cycling holiday in Scotland. Repair kit and spanner in the ruck sack, but in need of a bucket of water to locate the tiny prick. I managed to wheel the bike to a large farmshop with workshop attached. I explained my problem to the proprietor, who was sat at his desk doing some paperwork. He suggested that he probably had a bucket out the back, and there was a tap outside. I said 'great, would you mind letting me use the bucket for ten minutes'.

His reply was . . . . . 'no'.

Then he looked down at his paperwork and continued to ponder his daily life.

I trudged off with my bike wondering what the world is coming to.

"But please no binfestry."

Did anybody else read this and think how could that possibly happen on this thread? But no, there's always someone.
