RdZ football reminds me a bit of Bazball.

It takes no account of the opposition nor the conditions. When it works, it pays off handsomely. When it doesn't, it results in a battering. And as teams are seeing more of it, they are developing ways to ensure the latter happens more often.

Despite that, RdZ/Baz will not adapt or flex and I fear the real value will come from other teams learning that a version of RdZ football/Bazball, deployed selectively, can be a useful part of their armoury.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. The mindset is very similar.
Its high risk and demands absolute accuracy, which isn't always possible. The two methods allow no ' warming up ' period. Its all guns blazing from the word go. Crawley and Duckett go early, the middle order is exposed and players are still encouraged to play expansively. BHA lose possession playing out from the back, early, and they are in trouble. Lots of early goals conceded results in the team trying to play catch up all the time. No change in style leaves us too far upfield on the counter. Defenders regularly chasing back facing their own goal. Result....picked off.
Its fine having a positive mindset but top sport is based around small percentages and an ability to be flexible and re-adjust mid game. Both styles have an element of arrogance and stubborness about them. We believe in what we are doing and ain't gonna change. Some surprising wins are mixed in with some heavy defeats.
We never really 'sneak ' wins. Games that we are outplayed in and win against the odds. Our style doesn't allow that. We usually concede ( often two or more ) so there is little or no opportunity to ' sneak ' a 1-0. We do, however, lose a number of games, where we have plentiful possession and plentiful chances. It is an expansive, loose and wasteful system, that can be glorious to watch but can leave you unfulfilled and frustrated. The percentages of it working, the higher the level you go, will lessen. The quality of the opposition and coaches will find you out. It can flat-track bully against lesser opposition but needs refinement against the best.
As hard as England have tried v India, they have taken advantage of our errors and played the percentages better. Same with RDZball. Attractive, idealistic but error strewn system that, unless its prepared to be modified, will just fall short of maximising our potential.

Strongest XI Sunday and may as well let the fringe players get some European experience against Roma. We’re now 200/1 to win the Europa league and over turning a 4 goal deficit when our goal scoring record this year is poor (20 goals in 12 games but that includes 10 against Sheffield Utd, 4 against Stoke and Palace) is so unlikely. There is an argument that when we score, we score lots but that’s not allowing for the inevitable rolling around because a blade of grass caressed a cheek.

Personally, I’d go for Forest:
Bart
Veltman, JP, Dunk, Pervis
Gross, Baleba
Adingra, Facu, Barco
Welbz

For Roma
McGill
Lamptey, Webster, Dunk, Igor,
BBB, Moder, Baleba, Fati
Ferguson
think your team is the only one to contain Buonanotte.... really think he should start as he is capable of goals IMO... He needs a tough midfield around him.

If it was up to me, I'd start as we should have against Roma, by keeping it tight for 20 minutes. We simply cannot afford to keep gifting the opening goal or goals to average sides. And yes, I include Roma as well as Fulham and Wolves. Everyone has been praising Roma to the skies, but they wouldn't have scored any of their four goals against a team that defends properly.

So I'd start with

Verbruggen

Veltman Dunk Igor

Lamptey Baleba Gross Barco/Pervis

Buonanotte Lallana

Ferguson

I think a few errors have been creeping into JPVH's game recently, and Adingra might be better coming off the bench. Dunky has been playing his way out of the England squad recently too but you can't drop the captain. Can you?

Problem is RDZ always says it's individual errors that cause us to concede goals. He will never concede it might be the pressure his system puts on those individuals.

We allow teams to score goals that we never get the other end.

Agreed. The only way RDZ ball works consistently is if we have a midfield of extraordinary strength, mobility, tenacity and ability. But we sold those two, and it will take time to develop (or opportunity to buy) their replacements.

I feel like with recent results the general feeling is a bit low after such a feel good factor at the club, the next few games are pivotal in returning some positivity and having a strong end of the season.

A win today feels pretty massive IMO and if we could follow that up by a home win against Roma I feel we'll be back on track and the buzz will be back.

If we could achieve a top 10 finish or even grab a europa conference place I feel most would agree it's been a phenomenal season

Can we not enjoy a match thread where we are winning without long essays on everything we are doing wrong? All been covered before elsewhere 🙁 - if both we and Burnley both hang on, that’s back up to 7th place - don’t really care how we get there but if we get there today, I’m happy with that.

Our strikers need to start being more clinical in front of goal then we’d be more winning games.

Whilst we have been playing really poorly and havent deserved much, surely, surely we are due a bit of luck. A ball not hitting the post, a tight VAR call going in our favour, a lucky bobble, the ball going in off Ferguson's arse - anything just to change the momentum. Maybe Forest is the one.
It was. Thank God. Waited a long time to beat a team like that.
