[Albion] Romas in ground atmosphere

Seems to have gone into 2 topics. For what it’s worth atmosphere was great. I personally didn’t find it intimidating, and had a good laugh at the man going crazy with his 20 year old son because he seemed offended by us singing the great escape.
Not a massive fan of the name chanting after the goal but pre match song sung in unison flags flying was quite a sight.

As for the other topic. @Coozi I’d be amazed if anyone thought English fans are angels. You’re also jumping quite a way into history though with some of the examples. No matter who travels away you’re bound to have some drunken idiots even now but this isn’t the UK in the 80s. I can’t of course comment for other clubs who have in recent times travelled to Rome. I know I’d be disappointed if Brighton fans were involved in trashing the city. You sort of said yourself people justify things based on past club visits and not judged us on who we are. In regards to the BBC on this one does seem 2 innocent people were jumped upon and attacked and that was reported. They were just as scathing though for example of English fans at the euro finals at Wembley v Italy for example and how football hooligans had let the country down.
At least you seem fair.
So my problem is with portlock's racist claims and those who implicitly back him by evading the point, while you at least don't do that.

Please don’t lump me in with any posts that contain accusations of making racist comments, because I had absolutely no part in that. In fact, I’d ask you to edit that post immediately because that is something I’m not standing for at all and won’t hesitate to take further.

I also didn’t say that there haven’t been any issues for Italian fans in England. I just said in my own experience, I’d not seen similar things to what I’ve seen in Italy - that’s it.
A small piece of advice: If anyone ever says that men rape women on the tube, don't ever answer "I personally have never seen any men raping women, in my own experience". Just don't: you WILL be "lumped in with" rape apologists. Don't want that? avoid these types of answers.

You’re the only one who has raised that bizarre example. Again, you’ve tagged me in a post about a racist remark, that I had no part of being involved in. I’m asking you again to amend that post to reflect that. Nothing else.

Sorry guys, have to go out with my lady now, you know how we "LATINOS" are, right?
But you guys are generally cool, Brighton fans are nice, so all the best to you from the 15th of March onwards.

Oh right, just because 39 people died there due to English hooliganism... like, "get over"... right?
Also, Heysel was just peak English football violence, and so that alone should debunk portlock's Briths supremacy claims. But English people (or "Brits") are really really in no f***ing position IN GENERAL to school anyone on football sobriety. So it just sounds ridiculous to read euphemisms like "English are no angels, but...". Just criticise and accuse individuals for their own actions, rather than backing up a racist idiotic comment.
All of your posts are intended to try and justify the actions of Roma fans, based on historical football violence.

The people who participated aren’t those that were in your city this week.

Brighton fans don’t have a history with Roma fans.

Stabbings, coins being thrown, Nazi salutes….none of these came from Brighton fans. What you fail to recognise is that you’ve normalised your own fans behaviour to the point that you think it’s acceptable. We know your clubs and authorities can’t stop them and turn a blind eye instead and the far right are on the rise in Italy. Football violence in Rome is a weekly event, Stab City in the Eternal City.

I’ve no idea how old you are but you really need to grow up.

I can’t find the post now but I’m sure someone posted on here there was a Brighton fan actually wearing some Nazi insignia goading the Roma fan up at the segregation line. To pretend we are all angels doesn’t stack up. Also it’s a very interesting point you raise about the rising far right in Italy - but remember in Rome the fascists gravitate to Lazio. Us chanting pro Lazio slogans (I know it was done innocently in banter) will have been interpreted by some Roma fans as us having sympathies with the far right. I’d invite you to take a closer look at Italian clubs, Roma exist as part of a spectrum of clubs with a very working class anti-fascist history. As Italian football goes (yes it does have issues with far right and gang culture intimidating club hierarchies), Roma’s history puts them more at the good guys end of the spectrum

Fan wearing a Lazio scarf, a bit stupid but some of the stewards (Lazio fans) quite enjoyed it.

Very early doors there were Nazi salutes - about an hour or more before the game. Whilst Lazio are viewed as fascist sympathisers Rome has a depth of history regarding all things right.

As for good guys - what happened to Sean Cox would suggest otherwise.

I’m afraid there are too many apologists for Roma on here. Their fans stick together and look after their own, we do not and that’s sad. We aren’t very tolerant of one another - it’s always ‘youth’, ‘kids’ etc. These same people probably winge about a baby crying on a plane.

Let's do this: Next time ANY English football team plays in Rome, or next time there's a rugby game involving England, I'll invite you to my neighbour (which is 20 min away from the stadium). And you'll see the ANGELIC reputation English supporters have. But I guess the BBC doesn't report on the destroyed shops, and on people being attacked by some drunk idiot.
The point here is not to defend whoever stabs or attacks someone, the point is to debunk what portlock and Brian claimed. English supporters (and Dutch supporters) caused damages and violence in Rome for DECADES, and the result is that now even poor Brighton babyface supporters get hit by local idiots. Not saying it's justified, just saying that if you deny English violence is among the worst in Europe, you're not seeing straight and you're part of the problem. But I don't blame you, I blame the one-sided reality that your media feed you. I've been to England for Roma's away games through the years, and I have had my fair share of experiences in terms of witnessing friends' heads cut open for no f***ing reason. And let's not talk about your f***ing Mounted police squeezing women and children against the wall.

Don't try to compete on this shit, it's ugly for any side, and putting yourselves on a pedestal or singling out other countries' football fan base is simply ridiculous, coming from England, the land of hooliganism.
Where can I buy one of your 1980s time machines?

I myself or my friends have had bad experiences in England (Manchester, Liverpool, London three times), but I didn't make the news in the UK (nor in Italy), so I guess it doesn't count for portlock or brianfontana.
Judging by your contributions so far, I wonder whether this might be more to do with you, rather than being Italian.

It sounded good, but also weird. When Lukaku had that chance in the second minute the decibel noise didn't change. And when we hit the post in the 5th minute the exact same. Took a few replays to realise how good both those chances were. I quite like a crowd noise that rises and falls with the ebb of the game.
Exactly what I thought when I went to see Werder Bremen v Eintracht Frankfurt a couple of years back. Definitely a spectacle but the noise level was divorced from the activity on the pitch. It was just a good... noise. Didn't tell any sort of tale about the action itself.

Not wrong. Many would argue better. To me, different and a bit odd.

You didn't read what started the conversation. What started this conversation was "We're Brits, not hot headed Latinos".
I simply reminded the guy that football violence is not exactly foreign to "Brits": they actually made it famous across the world.
He didn't refer to Brighton fans, he made a racist claim about British moral and behavioural supremacy over "latinos" (and again, let's not comment on his terminology).
So No, Talby, I haven't justified SHIT, you simply have to pay more attention to context next time. Is that clear?

You don't have to. You simply need to remind that portlock guy that "Brits" are just as, or even more, violent than what he referred to as Latinos.
And you just need to come to Rome and witness other English football fans' violence that doesn't make the headlines where you're from. Not Brighton fans, surely, you're the cool ones. But the other ones, you know who.

Please quote him and then summarise your offence.

You’ve definitely justified SHIT by going on the attack to everyone.

And, by commenting that football violence isn’t exactly foreign to Brits suggests that you think we’re all fair game.

I don’t care where you’re from, or your race, creed, religion or sexuality …. You’ve come on here to have a go at the English, not conceding at any time that there’s an issue in Italy.

We weren't talking about a single team/individual case: portlock generalised: "We’re British, not hot headed Latinos that stab" (and then went on criticising racism, after making a bold racist statement, that's pathetic).
So if we're talking about Brighton, no you guys are cool.
It's just that after decades of your fellow citizens (other teams' supporters) being violent in Rome, local idiots react as the idiots they are.
I'm here to just bring portlock down to earth, so he/she realises there's the other side's reality, which is not well represented in English media. For all the broken fingernails a poor Brit came back home with, I've seen tens and tens of big headlines, but for all the destroyed shops, disorder, and violent behaviour I've WITNESSED every f***ing time an English team plays in Rome, I've never read or heard anything from English media. OF COURSE portlock thinks Brits are "not hot headed". In his mind, the Heysel tragedy probably never happened, and "Hooligan" is a thing of the past now that the UK THINKS it solved the problem internally, but doesn't care about abroad.

OK, you have a point. I was never saying that Brits are angels abroad, i absolutely accept that the problem hasnt gone away, but surely we can agree that the problem of football violence is a worldwide issue and not restricted to or the cause of two countries (as you keep mentioning Britain and Netherlands)? Brits turn up in huge numbers anywhere we go in sport, so the idiot minority is a larger minority in number than many other countries, for a start. Regardless of who 'started' football violence, it is now prevalent worldwide (you can't blame the Brits for it spreading elsewhere anyway ffs.. whether we caused it to spread is debatable anyway). Whatever our media tells us, Italy absolutely has a big problem with football related violence. You can't blame it all on 'retaliating against the Brits and Dutch'.

Hey, there must be a misunderstanding here: I'm not the one attacking Brits try to single them out on football violence, it's this guy portlock who wrote "We're Brits, we're not hot headed Latinos". https://www.northstandchat.com/threads/romas-in-ground-atmosphere.406890/post-11051940

I simply responded that it's a racist claim, and that "Brits" are in no position to school anyone on this topic. Instead of saying "fair enough, portlock made an idiotic comment", many here tried to go off on a tangent.

So you see, you and I are aligned!

Back on topic, I loved the singing the Roma fans sang before kick-off. A love letter to the city.

Everyone singing, at one pace, and not racing away as we do for GOSBTS, and genuinely awe-inspiring when they turn the volume up to 11 towards the end.

Roma Roma Roma was captured well by Brian Owen from the press box.

You get into a thread and comment without even reading.
Talby, I'll try to make it clear once more, but you need to focus ok?

I DID quote him. Not reading may be the reason why you may have missed it:

Then a bunch of you backed portlock's racist claim by evading my point and not conceding, and so I made my point again and again and again.

About justifying/not justifying, I think the following is pretty self-explanatory:
"The point here is not to defend whoever stabs or attacks someone, the point is to debunk what portlock and Brian claimed. English supporters (and Dutch supporters) caused damages and violence in Rome for DECADES, and the result is that now even poor Brighton babyface supporters get hit by local idiots. Not saying it's justified
Don't try to compete on this shit, it's ugly for any side"

"local idiots react as the idiots they are"

"I'm sorry if anyone got hurt."

Now at which point, reading all this, did you think: "mmmh, this guy, I tell you! He really is not conceding! He's really justifying stabbing!". Or, more likely, how many of these posts didn't you read, and still thought it was clever to comment on what you didn't read?

Summary (click here) just for you:
A guy on this thread made a racist claim. So I answered that English people (or "Brits") are really in no f***ing position IN GENERAL to school anyone on football sobriety.

Now, Talby: I can explain it to you over and over again, with drawings too, but I can't, I really can't understand it for you. That part, you have to sort it by yourself.
