[Albion] Romas in ground atmosphere

WTF is wrong with you more like?!! Pointed out 3 facts as antidotes to your love in with Roma fans and suddenly…I’m inciting revenge attacks?!! :lolol: What a plonker!
You are trying to blame the attack on Roma fans, that’s a massive lie and you know it. And you are trying to cover your tracks with silly name calling

Here's my POV as a Brighton fan in the home end. We had tickets in the curva nord right by the fence with the Brighton fans, not the best idea in hindsight but I wanted to be as close to our fans as possible after not being able to get an away fan ticket.
The walk to the stadium was a little tense as were the three security checks to get in. What made it worse were the two Brighton guys who spent the whole game goading the Roma fans.

The atmosphere and singing in the Roma end was incredible until the goals started going in, the guy with the Lazio short/scarf was asking for trouble and it was lucky it didn't escalate.

I was expecting the curva nord to be full of plastic Roma fans but the atmosphere was incredible albeit a bit uncomfortable as a Brighton fan. Much of the 'banter' from what I could see was due to those Brighton fans dishing it out before the game had started.

This was my first European game and I absolutely loved every second of it.

From the cab driver refusing to go any further because of the traffic and then going all around the houses after I had paid him to get me as close to the ground as possible (still about two and a half miles away), silently walking to the ground amongst all the Roma fans (I had no colours on), getting searched on five seperate occasions on the way in, the noise in the stadium from both sets of fans, the poor sod who slipped in the loo and ended up laying on his back in an inch of piss, the Albion fans precariously balancing nineteen pints on flimsy cardboard trays whilst tightrope walking on the seats to get to their spots, being held back by the riot guys and to the absolute carnage of the coaches after the game (you just cannot stuff that many pissed up fat blokes on a coach and the H & S guys over here would have had a field day).

It was brilliant despite the result and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Jesus Christ what is wrong with you? Paul Barber had to go on radio today to calm down this bullshit you are spreading about Roma fans being responsible for the attack.
Does he know who carried out the attack then?
Have the police caught them and told him?
Sorry if I’ve missed the news about who actually carried out the attack.

We’re British, not hot headed Latinos that stab, chant racist remarks, throw missiles and hold up vile banners under the guise of so called “passion” and the tacit approval of their clubs, police and politicians.

Italian fans have a very poor reputation, deservedly so. We prioritise safety and a welcoming law abiding atmosphere. I know what I prefer. Moreover, for all their passion it’s the PL teams that win the Euro trophies proving money trumps passion anyway. So let ‘em bang their drums in a fog of smoke and flares. Means you can’t see the dull fayre they serve up half the time!
I guess the BBC are not that eager to report on British supporters damaging the stadium's surroundings and the city centre, shops, and attacking people when they come to Rome for football or rugby... no, they only report font-size-80 headlines when a Brit has a bruise in Rome.
And don't get me started on our trips to the UK, with locals throwing bottles of beers at us cutting our heads open, or on British police and their f***ing horses smashing us against the wall.
Change the news channel portlock, your media are filtering what you read and hear: brits are the worst away fans visiting Italy, along with Dutch barbarians, you just see a one-sided reality.

Oh and btw, I love how you reject racist chants, by making a racist claim.

I’ve followed Brighton to virtually every town and city we’ve ever played in, but I’ve never witnessed anything like the behaviour from fans in Italy.

I’ve never sat in a bar in England and had a group of opposition fans dressed in black and carrying moped helmets just standing outside trying to be intimidating.

I’ve never seen a group of opposition fans wait for any Brighton fans to get into taxis before rushing at them trying to attack before the doors were closed.

I’ve never seen opposition fans in England trying to throw lit flares at supporter buses.

I could go on with other examples.

The idea that English fans behave just as badly as what we witnessed from some Roma fans just doesn’t tally with what I’ve seen with my own eyes in 30 years of following Brighton around the country - nothing to do with a filtered media either.

No one knows, that’s the point of why blaming Roma fans for it is so wrong. It’s like randomly blaming Brighton fans if any of the visiting exchange students get kicked in over here, which has been known to happen down the years

Bet nothing similar happens to the Scottish rugby fans
Hope it doesn’t obviously but it won’t prove a thing either way. That’s now how evidence or proof works

British aren't angels by any means but an Italian having a dig at British and Dutch football fans for being barbarians is a bit rich when football-related violence and intimidation in Italy, both domestically and especially when foreign teams visit, is very well established. Speaking to Marseille fans after the game when they visited us: they couldn't believe the warm welcome they had and the way they were treated throughout their whole trip over here: by the police, the general public, the Brighton fans, stewards, they couldn't believe they were trusted to mingle with us outside the stadium, visit our club shop etc, with zero issues... they said its unlike anything you'd ever see in France where domestic violence is rife and away fans are kettled everywhere, even domestically still. And this was marseille - the worst reputation in the country. I'm very confident you'll have the same experience next week unless fans start causing trouble.

Again, I'm not saying Brits are angels when it comes to football, but there are a whole host of countries where violence/racism etc is far, far more rife than over here nowadays and has been for a long time. Many Eastern European countries too!

Some of the stories I've heard from people there in Rome are unlike any I've heard about elsewhere, which is impressive since we also visited athens, ajax and marseille - not exactly unknown for violence against visiting fans too (particularly Marseille). I'm sure it's obviously still very much a minority of fans, but definitely a significant minority!

Did we do a lot of damage on Thursday then ? Genuinely didn’t see any from Tuesday morning through to Friday morning - either inside or outside the ground or anywhere else in the city, nor see or hear of any locals attacked. Pop back on here next Friday and tell us how you were treated in Brighton and at the Amex. I doubt Roma will feel the need to issue you all with specific warnings about the likelihood of violence or robbery, and making your own way to the stadium (if your reputation allows this to happen) will be perfectly safe - you won’t be told to avoid certain areas and won’t need police protection:shrug:

The few examples of twattish behaviour on the part of a tiny minority of our lot has (as usual) been rightly called out on here, as it usually is at the time it happens.

Perhaps for evidence you should read Jack’s post about the attack.

Anyway, I’ll leave it there as you’re putting your tiresome politics before common sense again.

I’ve not made a single political comment on this thread whatsoever, except a very brief reference to Livorno, so I think that’s just your rote animus

Yes, it’s entirely comparable to fascist chants and monkey noises against black players. Youre exactly the type who screams racism when someone cracks a joke about a Frenchman wearing sandals is called phillipe floppe. Another plonker going on the ignore list

Oh ok let me get this straight: if "BRIAN FANTANA" hasn't seen something, then it didn't happen.
Have you seen what happened Heysel Stadium disaster?

I love all these replies either deny or undermine British violence and neo-nazism, which is well known across the world, so much so that even Americans, when they have to refer to such scum, they use THE word that points to England: HOOLIGANS.

But sure, you've never seen those things you've listed, because you're standing right there, it's behind you mate!

Exactly. I mean with all the stabbing happening in the UK these days, I guess we're going to call all those stabbers "British supporters".

Let's do this: Next time ANY English football team plays in Rome, or next time there's a rugby game involving England, I'll invite you to my neighbour (which is 20 min away from the stadium). And you'll see the ANGELIC reputation English supporters have. But I guess the BBC doesn't report on the destroyed shops, and on people being attacked by some drunk idiot.
The point here is not to defend whoever stabs or attacks someone, the point is to debunk what portlock and Brian claimed. English supporters (and Dutch supporters) caused damages and violence in Rome for DECADES, and the result is that now even poor Brighton babyface supporters get hit by local idiots. Not saying it's justified, just saying that if you deny English violence is among the worst in Europe, you're not seeing straight and you're part of the problem. But I don't blame you, I blame the one-sided reality that your media feed you. I've been to England for Roma's away games through the years, and I have had my fair share of experiences in terms of witnessing friends' heads cut open for no f***ing reason. And let's not talk about your f***ing Mounted police squeezing women and children against the wall.

Don't try to compete on this shit, it's ugly for any side, and putting yourselves on a pedestal or singling out other countries' football fan base is simply ridiculous, coming from England, the land of hooliganism.
