grazie

Yep. I always loved De Rossi as a player but especially as a man.

Do you think he’ll keep the job permanently now?
look, I know him personally having spent many years at the Curva Sud, his first quality is that of having always been a great man on and off the pitch, as well as one of the strongest Italian midfielders of the last 20 years, I told you the day of the UEFA draw that Roma changed from one day to the next, compared to Mourinho (whom I never loved), they are a completely different team, absolutely, 9 wins out of 11 games with him as coach, today we are earning his stay in Rome very well, I believe he will remain on this bench for a long time.....he deserves it

He calls it correctly that youth and inexperience was an issue for us at this level. 6 out of 10 of the outfield starters were U23. Unfortunately, that's going to be a tough nut for us to crack going forward. The model is predicated upon finding and developing young talent. We won't be paying any significant fees for players who are unlikely to increase in value. While we have the youngsters, we'll get their talent, but well also get their inexperience. We won't be getting them at their peak.

Buanonotte at 19 is a better player than Mac Allister was at 19, but Mac Allister at 25 is much better. By the time Buanonotte is 25, we won't be able to afford his wages: - at best, we'll have another very talented teenage prospect, who will have to play against Buonanotte, who'll be with one of the super rich. We will always be fighting out of our weight category and whenever we look like we might actually win, we'll be undermined. De Zerbi understands this and realises what a massive achievement it is even sustaining a challenge in these circumstances. He's been clear eyed and honest about the situation and decent coaches like De Rossi recognise the truth.

We can moan all we like that the plan is never going to turn us from Brighton into Real Madrid, but in continental terms, it has turned us from non-entities into Brighton. Despite today's result, despite the deck that will remain stacked against us, those who know football, know that being Brighton is something well worth being. Continuing the model may mean that we may never actually win a major trophy. It should be nigh on impossible for a club with our budget to do so, but even if we don't, we'll all have some amazing adventures and, when we tell people all over the world that we're Brighton fans, instead of 'Who?' we'll get respect and maybe a bit of envy.

I agree to an extent but I think the next stage of the development is to start to make more Joao Pedro type signings and hold onto our bigger players. I think we will get players like KDH and others to improve the squad next year and add to the young talent.

Well said.

Along with Totti, De Rossi is my favourite player to come out of Italy & AS Roma. Loved the way he played, and is now managing.
Legend.

He seems very, very intelligent and calm doesn't he? His English is exceptional considering he played in Rome for almost all his career. Thoroughly likeable chap who was an absolute warrior on the pitch.
I wonder if he played briefly with Mac at Boca.

I suspect his fantastic English may be attributed to his wife who, despite growing up in Italy herself, has an English mother and an American father - and has been with De Rossi since 2011.

Actually, yes.

Their respective short spells at Boca were almost exactly concurrent (Alexis June 2019 - 31st Jan 2020 / de Rossi July 2019 - 6th Jan 2020).

De Rossi only made a handful of appearances, but they definitely played together, including starting together in midfield in this Copa Argentina match (which they lost on penalties, with Alexis missing one...) :

comes across as very likeable and gives us a lot of credit

It's a really good interview, and slightly annoyingly it seems as though, like Thursday, he's not taking anything for granted.

I also really like that the title makes it seem like a rallying call to action to Brighton 😂
