[Albion] RDZ out

If Bloom won’t deliver the quality we need at DM and LB this summer, I’d say it would better to have a new manager. RDZ’s system relies on 8 or 9 quality players being at the top of their game all game. Without that we’re highly vulnerable at the back.
Do you think Sassoulo and Donetsk had better midfielders than us? When does a manager have to take responsibility for playing to his team’s strengths?

I agree - we had a world class CM last season and certainly don’t anymore. RDZ was lucky to inherit that and made the most of it whilst talking them out of the club.

And yet, Gilmour and Gross are both feted on here so what it is? Personally I don’t think Gilmour is anywhere near good enough at the top level - he looked like a little boy out there tonight - but I usually get pelters for that opinion.

But it still doesn’t explain why we are so poor defensively and lack any real threat going forward. We’ve gone backwards as a team overall this season and I think RDZ has looked limited at times.

Yes, have agreed with you and @Herr Tubthumper all season about all that. There was a cringy moment in tonight’s game a couple of minutes in when either Lukaku or Dybala faced solely Gilmour when attacking at the centre circle. His lack of pace there for all to see. Not cringy against Gilmour, but WTF were RDZ and Dunk playing at with that scene, 0-0 away in the EL?

Gilmour, a nearly 40 Milner and Gross have few of the attributes of an elite DM. Gilmour is a playmaker with zero pace who needs a Caicedo and MacA behind and beside him for power and defensive insurance.

I wasn’t fooled by the EL group results but enjoyed the Ajax and Marseille games. For some reason AEK were better than us home and away, pinball in our box in Athens somehow saved us from a spanking as they outclassed us. In the PL we’ve missed Colwill, Caicedo and MacA so badly, they were the glue, they helped make Estupinan incredible at everything. Losing Solly and Enciso doesn’t explain our fall from last season.

On the basis that last season was our zenith so far, I put the dip down to:
- The additional games. Fulham, Tottenham, Wolves get a juicy rest and week’s prep before most PL games.
- Inadequate squad building last summer, especially with Thursday games coming too.
- Losing MacA, Caicedo and Colwill.
- Losing Solly, Enciso and Veltman.
- RDZ’s rigidity on one system, which becomes flawed to an extent with lesser players. No pragmatism on defending.
- Ferguson, Estupinan and (often) Mitoma aren’t playing at their highs of Aug 22 to Sept 23.

Given all that, the early weeks PL form leaves us in a position the envy of some PL clubs.

Are people aware this is a joke thread ? The serious replies in agreement with Junior are laughable.
Er, no, the thread was/is a genuine challenge as to whether or not RDZ is still the man for the job. His first season was undoubtedly a huge success, but he appears reluctant to adapt our style of play to account for different situations.

Yep, top ten in Premier League with one of the lowest budgets and lots of injuries this season. Totally found out.
Only top 10 by virtue of good start. Last 22 games 24 points, back to CH and GP days.

May finish bottom half. Watford nearly got relegated in a season when they won 4/5 at start and did get relegated following season.

Halfway in PL injury list. Liverpool have far more and done very well covering so far.

Low budget is a TB choice as much as enforced. Time will tell whether it is the soundest policy on the pitch.

So, yes, we have been found out. The pixie dust has been blown away in last 4 games. The emperor is lacking sartorial dignity.

It’s a PL win once every 5 weeks post Bmuff at home. Living the dream.

This unfortunately seems to be true, and pointed out by critics and commentators on tv.

Perfect explanation.

Everyone seems to love Gilmour, but for me he is an average PL midfielder, nothing more.

Defensively, we are appalling. Again Veltman should have started. Complete overload on the back post on 3rd and 4th goal……

RdZ completely outcoached and not for the first time this season…..

Really pissed off, but had a nice meal….

Gilmour couldn’t lace MacA’s boots, if he could catch him.

Low budget really is TB saying that he wants the club to be self sustaining. The only person that makes up the losses is him. I'm fine with that. I don't think he should pay for the chase for success, he's done enough.

Without Tony Bloom we are a third division club. Folk forget that.

To a degree but he has also said we should be top 10 PL. I stick by what I have said since we were moaning about no striker in CH/GP days: TB cannot rely on in staying one step ahead in the transfer market. At some point that will go wrong a la Southampton as Martin Samuel argued last week in Times.

There is an almost perfect correlation between wage bill and position in PL. No surprise then that Villa have 5th highest wage bill having spent Grealish money on wages and bought wisely. Theirs might be a short term success; TB may have last laugh. Right now that doesn’t look like it as they have IMO the 2nd best coach in the world.

Is he trying to get himself sacked?

I’ve had enough of constant keeper rotation every 2 games with no regard to how well the respective keeper has actually played before being dropped. It’s no wonder our defence has been turd all season.
f*** off! Imagine starting a RDZ out thread. Even after tonight’s disappointment, Brighton are a European side and we’ve been on the journey of a lifetime under him. Long may it continue.
