Who else is watching?

I am engaged straight away. Cosmo Jarvis plays John Bkackthorne, an English sailor who finds himself, by design, in Feudal Japan as leadership is contested by a council of five potential guardians of the Empire.

Taken prisoner he is utilised by various members of the council to further their efforts towards governing the empire.

Adapted from the book by James Clavell.

It has been adapted before with Richard Chamberlain as Blackthorne.

I’m loving it.

On Disney channel.

Was planning to, but over the last week or two I've been making an effort to catch the main oscar nominees before this weekend's ceremony. May get to it next week, have to get started soon or else there'll be so many episodes I'll say I'll wait for the end of the season, but then it will go behind all the other seasons of shows I need to catch up on first. I like a lot of Sanada's stuff.

Yep I watched the first couple.
Every once in a while my inner 'filthy creep' needs a voice:-

"Anna Sawai is worthy of sailing through uncharted waters, halfway round the planet".

Watched it. Loved it. Loosely based on true events, Clavell just changed the names of real-life characters. At some point there is going to be a BIG battle. Can't wait until the next episode drops tomorrow.

Cosmo Jarvis is definitely channeling Richard Burton with his accent?

It works very well. Even though it’s an odd choice?

Cool I forgot about the ninjas. thankfully I can't remember much of what happened in the Richard Chamberlain version, apart from the obligatory ritual Seppuku scene.

Seen the first episode and was impressed. I can remember the first version which led me to read the book. Which was nice!

Anjin-San is the only thing I remember from it, will give this new one a chance. All here seems to like it. Those Clavell books are quite good.

Yep, watched the first series and read the book. Picked up a few words in Japanese which came in very useful and impressing some oriental female students back in the early 80s!

What was stranger than Dr Kildare turning up in Japan and then getting down and dirty in the Thornbirds.

Third episode was great. Starting to see the bonds being forged and respect between the “barbarian” and the Japs.

Very good indeed.
