Arrived by air yesterday, and asked at the airport about the strike on Friday and then asked what guaranteed trains were running from Rome Termini to the airport.

A very unhelpful and disinterested response of we doubt know, there could some or there could be none.

But you have guaranteed minimum service levels, still no helpful response.

Thinking I will now get my hotel to book a taxi to play safe.

Fair play to each and every one of you who are going. The logistics look an absolute cuffing nightmare.
Disappointed to learn that you shan't be going.

Following your impromptu bus tour of the suburbs of Nottingham earlier this season, I was looking forward to reading the Italian sequel, where you inadvertently find yourself in a Rimini industrial estate with twenty minutes to kick off.

Indeed. Given that, I felt it prudent to take a half day and navigate my way onto a Shoreham barstool instead via a 700. Whats the worst that could happen ?

Was the staffmember on some kind of Southern/TrenItalia exchange scheme ?

It’s listed here, but suppose it’s no guarantee. And with no seat reservations/it being a mad scrum might look in to other options.

Get a shuttle bus. £6 per head and under an hour journey. Regular departures from different spots in Rome eg Termini, Vatican.

Several different companies, private so not affected by strike and business as usual.

Example of one option

We've made alternative plans today to get back to Milan as (from what I've read / heard) , I think its highly unlikely trains are running between Rome and Milan on Friday. We've booked a flight as cover from Rome to Milan which will allow us to still get our flight back out of milan. We will either get to Rome Termini station and they confirm trains are fine (in which case we will get on the train to Milan) or if not, get train to Rome airport, get on flight and Deal with getting from one Milan airport to the other if we have to. Proper pain in the arse.

I also booked us a 'back up' flights, back to Venice.

The timing works perfectly, if there's no train we have enough time to head for the airport, which in turn marries up with our outward flight.

I was getting so antsy and stressed about every aspect of this trip, I needed to do something.

Are there no Milan trains listed on guaranteed list?

not one that gets us back in time for our flight from Milan.. This whole trip has been utter carnage to arrange. I've had enough of it now....

The biggest problem is the lack of information - no one can confirm or deny anything. I've tried train companies, travel insurance, different flight options everything. Been a bloody nightmare.

All this relief at being able to get to airports via various means….. but no guarantee flights going as Italian Ministry website strike page says air travel could be affected too!

All the plains/trains/automobiles stuff above reminds me of the arranging I do our independent holidays. This was far more complex in the pandemic in gathering vaccine paperwork, testing here and overseas. I had to stay calm, as Mrs.W was stressed from …. contributing nowt to the process :lolol: .
